wednesday hodgepodge

volume 99--Thanks, Joyce!

1. So, do you like beer?
Yes and I like beer with candy.  I know some people are turning up her/his nose right now, but candy and beer are my favorite treats.

2. What's your least favorite repetitive task?
Paperwork

3. When was the last time you rode a bus? Where was it headed?
The year was 2011.  Hub hates to travel; doesn't want to see the rest of the US or world.  I on the other hand, want to see the world!  In 2011, I booked a bus trip to New York City through Sunshine Tours.  This was a fantastic bus company.  I loved New York and would love to go back.

4. What song from your childhood or from your own children's childhood could make a parent's nerves stand on end?

The song from my daughters teenage years was "Pissing the Night Away."  When I first heard the song, I really liked the beat.  I thought the words were kissing the night away.  Shocker when I heard the real words and the meaning.

5. The US Presidential election cycle is drawing to a close (can I get an AMEN??), and the third and final debate was held last night...what was the last thing you 'debated about'?
Can't remember....maybe it was a curfew with daughters.

6. Can a person make too much money? How much is too much?
If a person earns money the hard way by working, then I say no-one can't make too much money.  How much is too much, I have no idea-I guess one can say I don't make too much money.

7. Pop-soda-coke-something else...what's it called where you live?
The soft drink is called 'pop' where I live.  When living in Baltimore, I called the soft drink 'soda.'

8. Insert your own random thought here.

#2 daughter and I went to our first Relay for Life meeting Monday night.  #2 daughter is pumped about this-which makes her momma smile :).

Weekend Rewind

Weekend Rewind....

We all journeyed out Friday to our little favorite spot to eat

.  #2 Daughter was able to join us.  She has been on rotations on the health wagon.  I was happy to see her, but not happy that she appeared to have an awful cold.  Of course the questions began---are you getting enough rest, eating right, washing your hands, etc.  replied "gosh, yes Mom." I know she will soon turn 25 but to me she is still my 'little girl.'  Bella's was very crowded and hubs kept circling the lot for a place to park-gosh, just park in the grass with the other vehicles. No sooner had I uttered these words -a car was leaving.  Hub quickly maneuvered the van and whew! Thank Goodness! but what?  how long before a table will be available? so time was spent waiting for a table.  This didn't bother me because it gave time for mother and daughter to catch up on what #2 daughter had been doing. Come to find out Emory &  Henry College Homecoming was this weekend.  Smiles, laughter, and lots of hugs as people were reminiscing about their college days this made me miss my college days and wishing for a college reunion.

I don't think I have ever seen the trees as beautiful as they are this year.  Absolute gorgeous in my neck of the woods.

Even with the clouds, the view is breath taking.

#2 daughter and I had eye appointments very early Saturday.  Daughter's eyes had changed and needed a new prescription.  She loves her frames so she will only need to replace her lens.  Wow!  I had spend quite a bit by 10:00 a.m.  I called to tell hub and he thought we had been on a shopping spree.  We go yearly for check-ups because daughter and I are as blind as bats and our vision is really important to us.  Talk about inflation!!  We were so in shock that daughter and I just went home to vent and rave some more.

That evening, we all went to visit the happy newlyweds.  Charlie's cousin had gotten remarried a couple of weeks ago in Gatlinburg, and the couple was hosting their first party as husband and wife,  It was a nice, little get together.

We kept grandson that night.  The boy was wired!  Maybe it was because it was later than usual when I gave him his bath, but let me tell you he was bouncing off the walls.  At 11 that evening, he finally gave up and went to sleep and I did too!

Another gorgeous day on Sunday-no complaining here.  We took advantage of the weather and stayed outside most of the evening,

Both daughters wanted to go to Macados  for an early dinner.

On the way home, the little guy was worn out.

We even carried him to the swing.

My thought...well this is what happens when you get in bed late and have to get up early, right girls?  I know they remembered those days
.
Another gorgeous weekend in Virginia.

Wednesday hodgrepodge

1. Noah Webster was born this week back in 1758....besides the online version, do you own a dictionary? Do you ever use the hardback copy or is your hunt for a definition strictly online these days?

Mostly, I use a hardback/paperback copy.  I like to be able to mark the place and then refer to it as needed.

2. Should public schools ban Halloween celebrations? What about other holiday celebrations currently under fire?
At my school, we don't have Halloween celebrations.  At the elementary level, I think the kindergartens celebrate Halloween by wearing their costumes to school and then they go around to the businesses in town for Trick or Treat.  At my church, we have a Truck or Treat-people dress up and hand out candy from the trunk of their car on our church parking lot.  This has been a huge success.
As for as other holiday celebrations go, we may put up a Christmas Tree in our rooms or decorate our door.  So far, we have been allowed to do this without 'much heat' from the 'higher ups.'

3. What's your favorite 'dog' movie?
"Marley and Me"

4. When were you last somewhere you'd describe as 'too quiet'?
About a week ago-no one was home but me.  This is highly unusual-my house is always bubbling with noise.  Hub was gone, grandson at his house, and both daughters not home--too quiet for me.  However, I kinda enjoyed it a teeny bit.

5. Are you a neat cook or a messy cook? In other words do you clean as you go or make a big mess and then deal with it later?
When I cook, I try to clean as I go.  Hub says this is why I am not such a great cook-I have too many pans in the fire at once.  His suggestion is to cook, then clean.

6. Did you hear about Felix Baumgartner, the skydiver who broke the sound barrier via parachute? Was your first thought COOL! or was your first thought CRAZY! Are you adventurous?
Crazy was my first thought.

7. What's not a word but should be?

The only one I can think of is woot!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
 Woot!!!!
Hub got a good report from his oncologist on Monday-next check up is in six months.  I have started a Relay for Life Team-slogan:
Can 'Soar' Society-Together we can rise above cancer.  Have I mentioned lately how much I despise that word???

First, I want to thank our Heavenly Father:
God thank -you for my husband's great report from his oncologist today.  We truly serve an amazing God.

 Beautiful weekend in Southwest Virginia.

The colors are amazing.

We took Grandson to a park on Sunday.

 So many 'things' to do.

Swing....

 Climb...

See Saw...
Watching the ducks...

Not only did he hate to leave, but so did Ma Maw and Auntie.
But after a tiring day, it was time to go.
Have a great week-and enjoy it!

Wednesday hodgepodge

1. In what ways do you indulge yourself?

I would have to admit--in this order too!  LOL

2. Have you ever taken a cooking class? Any interest? What type of class would you most like to try?
I have never taken a cooking class.  As many of you already know, I am not a chef.  If someone will cook, I will plan the meals and clean up the kitchen.

3. What does it mean to be a good citizen?
A good citizen votes, helps out his/her country and community.

4. 'Tis the season of the political advert...do these ads influence your vote?
Not really, but the ads make me want to turn the television off!

5. What's something you see today that makes you wish you were a kid again?
Just recently I saw college kids (they are still kids, right?) playing hacky sack.  Now I never played or heard of this game while in college.  Anyway, hacky sack is bouncing a bean bag with your knees-this looked like so much fun.
Last week taking grandson to Chuck E Cheese made me want to be a kid again.  No such thing as Chuck E Cheese when I was growing up.

6. What's your least favorite cliche?
"life's a bitch"

7. What percentage of your Christmas shopping has been completed? How does that make you feel?
I can say 0% is completed.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Charlie sees his oncologist Monday.  Prayers for good news.

Weekend Rewind

Weekend happenings..

We kept grandson Friday night.  His birthday was today. On Friday his babysitter had given him a pillow pet for his birthday.  Usually after his bath, he eats a snack and begins to unwind.  But not Friday-he was wound up!!   After saying bedtime prayers, he began to yawn and I began to smile.  Instead of watching "Blues Clues" he just wanted to have his pillow pet light on.  Personally, I thought this was a great idea.  Wrong, he kept pushing the buttons and the light show kept changing colors.  After an hour, I decided the little one needed to get some sleep so I took him downstairs and rocked him to sleep-I think I dozed a couple of times myself.

Saturday, we celebrated grandson's birthday at Chuck E Cheese.

Not only did Nate enjoy playing the games, I caught #1 daughter relieving stress
The grown-ups have just as much fun as the kids.
Nate and 'Buddy' counted all his tickets

Next time to choose his prizes
which took just as long as playing the games.  Oh so many choices to choose from.

Sunday at church, I helped with Wee Worship.  I found masks and the children put these on.

It is hard keeping three and four year olds attention for an hour and a half especially since they have already sat for an hour in Sunday School!  Whew!

#1 daughter is staying with some friends of ours as she completes her rotation on a health mobile.  The drive to Big Stone Gap was gorgeous.  On the way back home, hub and #2 daughter and I stopped to stretch our legs and take in some of the view.

This time of year is beautiful.  In a couple of weeks, it will be more beautiful.  When one looks at the tree's colors, how can one deny God's work?

Enjoy your life and week!
