Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. They say you learn something new every day. What did you learn yesterday?

Yesterday, I learned to keep quiet.  My grandson (hub's son Todd's son) came to the house after school.  I always check his book bag for homework and to make sure he has his lunch bag.  When I opened up his lunch bag....oh my!! the smell was horrible.  I opened up his thermos and there was mold in it!  What??  So I asked Nate (grandson) what on earth was this....Nate, who is in the third grade, explained that his dad and his dad's live in girlfriend had forgotten to pack his lunch and this was left since Friday in his bookbag. He explained that he knew I had put money on his lunch account so he went and bought him a peanut/butter sandwich.  I about blew a gasket!!!  Hub isn't feeling too well....with the chemo and he has an infection too, so I calmly said nothing aloud.  I kept quiet and neither did I say anything to his dad when he pulled up to get Nate.   This was something I learned, that if I had said something, hub would have gotten upset, and if I had mentioned this to his dad, his dad would not let Nate get off the bus at the pharmacy anymore....and we wouldn't see him.
Nate didn't seem to have been upset about his lunch as I was....maybe I shouldn't had been so upset!

2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.

I don't think so.

3.  April 25th is National Telephone Day. Do you still have a land line or have you gone mobile only? When you receive a text message do you respond immediately? Last time you turned your phone off?  In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too
hard) where the telephone is featured.

Completely mobile here.
If possible, I try to respond to text message immediately...in my opinion (ahem) just shows courtesy.
A childhood memory is being on a party line.  I remember waiting and waiting for someone to get off the line, but then too scared to talk to a significant other because someone might be listening.

4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.

Close call.....I ran a red light!!  Now for some background....my small town only has one red light,  I have no idea how I didn't get T-boned!  The red light has three lights....one for cars turning left, one for cars going straight, and one for cars going right.  I was going straight but I looked at the light for cars turning left....which was green...cars going straight the light was red.  I went through the red light.  I looked in my back rear mirror and saw the light was red...and gasped.  When pulling onto the carport....after shaking and gathering my wits, I looked up and said...."Thank you God, I know that was you."  Even though I live in a small town, the red light is at the main intersection...I could have easily gotten T-Boned a close call for me!

5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?

Psychology

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Thoughts on Wal-Mart doing your shopping for you.   I went to Wal-Mart Saturday and was asked if I wanted to sign up for my personal shopper.  This person would have my list, shop for me, and all I had to do was drive up and pick up my items....I would never have to leave my car.  I am not a fan of Wal-Mart, but I am that lazy to do my shopping for myself....I like to talk to people and not having to go inside the store....not me...I might run into a long lost colleague.  I knew some people were signing up, but this is not for me.

1. Three things on your spring bucket list? If you don't have an actual list that's fine, pretend you do.

With hub's health issues, I don't have anything on my bucket list BUT if I did.....

4. I read here eight things to do before 8 am to make your day less hectic-Start one load of laundry, drink water, empty the dishwasher, read your Bible, know what you're having for dinner, get dressed, brain dump (two lists-one what you're thankful for and one what's weighing on your mind), and after the brain dump make your to-list for the day

How many of these are you currently doing? Which one do you think would help the most if you added it to your early morning routine?
Image result for laundry
On Tuesdays, I do laundry and yes I start before 8am...usually around 6:30am I have my first load of laundry in the washer.

Weekend

Image result for opening up the windows cartoon

The weather has finally gotten warm ya'll. Well, we went from snow to temps in the high 70s to low 80s in one week.  The sunshine felt so good.

Friday, I took Blake, for a stroll.  I was actually sweating!!  He, of course, fell asleep so I was kinda glad to reach my vehicle and turn the AC on!!

Saturday, I opened up all the windows in the house. I did a little cleaning and worked outside trying to clean up the yard....picking up so many limbs.  Then I sat back and just enjoyed the weather.

Hub and I even enjoyed sitting outside later that evening :).

Sunday was a raining day.  I hated this because of the race--NASCAR in Bristol. So many fans at the race and the rain came.  As a matter of fact, we are under a flash flood warning.

Yep, is predicted for Monday!!

Have a Great Week....Enjoy Life

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. April is National Jazz Appreciation Month. Are you a fan? If so what's a favorite you'd recommend to someone new to jazz listening?

Image result for all that jazz

Not really a fan of jazz.

2. Mandolin, ukulele, harp, accordion or banjo...which would you be most interested in learning to play? Or do you already play one of the instruments listed?

Image result for playing the harp

My choice would be the harp.

3. Do you judge a book by it's cover? Elaborate. You may answer in either/both the literal or figurative sense of the word.

Image result for judging a book by its cover pictures

I am guilty of this.  I most definitely judge a book by it's cover.  Seeing a person dress in short dresses, short shorts, wearing jeans with holes at the top of their thighs, piercing covering their face, along with tattoos, baggy pants seeing their underwear.....I immediately predetermine the type of person he/she is.  This is a trait I most definitely need to work on....for example the last time husband had a CT scan at Duke the person doing his scan had tattoos, nose rings, eyebrow rings, and I thought "Oh No".  After talking to him, he was so nice and one of the tattoos, he showed me was a bible verse covering his arm.(sigh)

4. According to a recent study the ten most nutritious foods are-almonds, cherimoya (supposed to taste like a cross between a pineapple/banana), ocean perch, flatfish (such as flounder and halibut), chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, swiss chard, pork fat (shocking! but I don't think they mean bacon), beet greens, and red snapper. Are any of these foods a regular part of your diet? Any you've never ever tasted? Which would you be most inclined to add to your diet?

Image result for eating almonds

I snack on almonds daily.

I love beets, but have never had green beets. Cherimoya sounds tasty...pineapples and bananas I would add to my diet but...in my neck of the woods probably never find this!

5. Besides a major holiday what is the most recent thing you've celebrated with your people? Tell us how.

Twelve weeks ago, I celebrated the birth of my third grandson.  This one was different, because it was my daughter's son.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hub began his new chemo treatment yesterday.....taking 8 pills a day for two weeks.  Prayers that this chemo will shrink the cancerous tumors and he can tolerate this new treatment.

I began keeping this cutie pootie a couple of weeks ago.   Oh man....the joy and the best therapy ever!

Have a Blessed Day
