Weekend Rewind...

Hubs Did It......Finally!!

Hub has never wanted to fly.  As a matter of fact, he has only flown once and that was because of doctor's orders!

We attend church with a fellow (Justin) who owns this aircraft.  He has been talking to hub and encouraging him to go flying with him.  Hub agreed to go one day and yesterday was the day!  Our phone rang at 7am telling hub to meet him here...
.
a perfect day for flying.  Since it was a four-seat aircraft, I jumped on board. Justin told hub he would do a flight test run to make sure he was okay with flying.  Hub was skittiesh to say the least, but he climbed on board. After the test run, Justin landed the plane and asked hub how he liked it.  Hub's reply-"I didn't like it."  So flying wasn't for him.
On the way home, I asked hub what he didn't like about flying.  He said the entire time he was in the air he kept thinking what would happen if the aircraft crashed and all crazy thoughts.  This wasn't what I thought about-I on the other hand love flying and am so amazed at all the beauty of the sky and the world below.  This is what I told hub goes through my mind.  I do enjoy flying and one day- just maybe hub will try again.

Later hub and i went to hear children from Uganda sing.  Stories were told that make me want to cringe-can't imagine the life these little ones have already had to face.

Their songs, dances, and face expressions told a different story.

Amazing little ones!

That afternoon we attended a birthday party grandson (Hub's son other son, Camden) who will be one on Tuesday.
Did not tarry long just because of the tension in all of this.  But I did for this one what I did for the other grandson -which was start a savings account for him.

Later that evening, we went to hear Exile and Juice Newton perform. I had never heard of Juice Newton but when she started singing 'Just Call me Angel' and 'Queen of Hearts' I thought -ah yeah I know her.  Of course Exile's music was in my hay day!  Great music to end a great day.

The next couple of weeks is going to feel like a whirl wind around here.  Traveling to a couple  different places in one week and getting ready for school is going to get the best of me.  But I will survive!

So thankful the storms and tornadoes missed me.  Prayers for all who were affected by them.
Have a great week!
Enjoy Life

Wednesday hodgepodge

1. When I look at the sky I feel_____awe.___________________________________.

2. If you had to run for political office, which one would you run for? Do you have any real desire to actually do this?
Probably would run for the office of school board. I  could actually contribute something to this political office.  Never any desire to run for any political office!

3. What scent makes you think of home?

When someone is grilling out with charcoal.  Most everyone uses gas grills, but when I was growing up no such thing as a gas grill.  Neighbors would use charcoal and of course all of us kids would invite ourselves.  Today, I love smelling charcoal and my stomach starts growling.

4. How often do you take a step back to think about where you're headed in life? Do you need more or less self-reflection?

Very often.  Here lately, hub and I have been sitting outside talking into the wee hours of the morning.  So much talk revolves around where we were to where we are today.

5. July is National Ice Cream Month...besides a cone, what's your favorite food item to top with ice cream?
 Cantaloupe-

6. What might your autobiography be called?

Plain, Ole Me.

7. Your least favorite mode of transportation? Why?

I don't mind flying, tour bus riding, or riding in a car. Have always wanted to travel by train and take a cruise so my least favorite would have to be riding a bike!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Weekend Rewi

Weekend Rewind....

Weekend Rewinds....might be better.

Interviews, Yard Sale, Races, In-service, and Moving.....(the list could go on and on)

Hub is on our local Town Council and last Thursday was his first 'official' meeting.  A meeting hub was not looking forward to with re-appointments of officials and such.  Hub likes smooth sailing, but also wants to do what is best for our town.  He is one not to jump on the 'bandwagon' but votes on what he believes is right. Last Thursday, was that kinda of meeting.  After returning home from the meeting, I could tell he felt bad for someone but also relieved.  This was a very 'touchy situation' and he voted for doing what is best for our town. I don't say anything but just listen.  It was the wee hours of the morning before he was able to go to bed.  Earlier in the week, I had agreed to help hub in our Coffee Shop on Friday.  Now I have been getting up this summer with hub, but when the alarm sounded on Friday morning, I must admit it was hard to.  I made it to the Coffee Shop around 10-a far cry from 6:30 like hub does.  Quick as I had gotten there, the phone rang.  Daughter told hub it was our local TV station.  Hub thought it was a joke, but it wasn't.  The TV station was sending someone to interview him.  Hub agreed to the interview which was planned for 2:00 that day.  As soon as he hung up the phone he began pacing the floor, back and forth and wondering what type of questions would be asked.  This went on until the TV anchor person arrived.  In my sense of humor trying to alleviate the situation I remarked-"Show Time." Hub was not amused to say the least-not one bit.

Personally, I think he did a terific job!  He gave credit for someone's dedication but stated why this person wasn't reappointed.  Hub was more than relieved this was  over and so was I ! His interview was shown on our local news numerous times.

Saturday morning I began having my yard/garage sale.  We had accumulated soo much 'stuff.'  Later that evening we went to watch one of our local young man and my school's secretary's son race.  Dirt racing it is with  fast cars.

Thrilled for this young man.  Loved this atmosphere and plain on going again.

This past week for three days I had to attend in-service.  When asked by my principal last May, it seemed like a good idea.  However, he didn't tell me all the details about the in-service-like reading the book and answering questions prior to going (which wasn't so bad) but the detail he forgot to mention that was a shocker to me was leaving at 6:10 every morning and returning home at 6:45 that evening! I did point out this small detail was not told to me! By Thursday, I felt like I had been run over by a dump truck.  Then I realized how fast summer is flying by.

Daughter planned on moving to her new house this weekend.  The weather did not cooperate as we hoped for. Yucky, rainy weather is just not the ideal weather to be moving in.  For the past couple of days, we have had freakishly cool weather-now the rain.

Yeah!  We did it-that is moving between rain showers.

Daughter still has lots of the little things to get put away but she will, eventually!

I am all smiles this morning-the sun is shining!

Have a blessed week and enjoy life.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. July is National Anti-Boredom Month. When was the last time you were bored? What's your go-to cure for boredom?

I tend to get bored easily.  Many people say I just need to slow down a little and enjoy doing nothing-hard for me to do.  When bored, I usually find something to do-read, clean, go for a walk/run, get on the computer and browse, sometimes I even bake!

2. What's the last thing you made a reservation for?

I have not made reservations in a long time.  Hub made reservations for a little get-a-way for us last month.

3. What's one thing on your summer 'bucket list'? Any plans to make it happen?

Travel to Charleston, South Carolina-something about this historic, seaside city I want to see.  Don't think this will happen this summer.

4. What's your favorite summertime sip?

Here lately, I have been enjoying

5. What .do you find is the best way to handle another person's hostility and hopefully ease the tension?

Not my area of expertise.  Hub is really good at this and by the end of the conversation or whatever, the person who was really hostile is either hugging or shaking hands with hub and thanking him.  Me I handle it by leaving the situation or just walk away without saying anything.

6. Your favorite film set in summer?

Thinking of two (hopefully both were set in summer)
Grease

and Dirty Dancing

7. What word are you using too much lately?

Honestly, can't think of one.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Just finished my book report for in service next week.  I can't believe I had to read a book, answer questions, travel, and then attend a three-day inservice.
But I feel.....

Weekend Rewind

Weekend Rewind....

I turned another year older on Thursday.  The older I get, the faster time goes by.

This was the first time our family was not together for the Fourth of July :(    I knew hub would not be his usual self-not only do I love family gatherings, but hub enjoys grilling out for all.    Each year it gets harder and harder to get us all together.
We have gone from this....

to only this

We did enjoy grilling out.

A beautiful, clear sky
and the temps were in the upper 70's.  Not bad for Fourth of July when temps are usually sweltering hot.  After eating we did sit and reminisce.  Because my birthday is the day before the Fourth of July, I always think back to what I was doing last year. So much has happened this year-some sad with the loss of our loved ones...
Charlie's sweet Mama being carried across the yard by daughter's boyfriend (now finance)
Hard to believe Charlie's Mom is no longer with us.Celebrating first holidays without our loved ones are hard.
This time last year we were celebrating daughter passing her state boards in pharmacy...
So proud of my daughter--Dr. Doane
We also were remodeling a building to open up Chilhowie Drug Company and Coffee Shop..so we have went from this..

to this..

Daughter #2 has become engaged....

wedding plans have not begun...as of yet...but thinking plans will begin soon.

The older I get, the faster time goes by. (Worth mentioning again)

Saturday while hub was at the Coffee Shop, I tacked the job of cleaning out our garage. This has been something I have been putting off.  So much junk piled up!  When I there was something that I didn't know what to do with, I just stuck it in the garage.  Now one 'thing' has become too many things!  Hours and hours I worked and hub would drive by occasionally and ask if I was okay and bring me McDonald's Tea. People would drive by and ask if I was having a yard sale.  Nope just doing some major cleaning.  But then I thought to myself, I might just have a yard sale next Saturday and get rid of the stuff.  Another man's junk is someone else treasure, right?  Mission was accomplished that afternoon!!  Some friends stopped by and I would ask them-"You want to see the garage?" They replied, "Huh?"  After explaining how I had cleaned it out-they were amazed!!

Grandson's dad went to a concert, so we kept Grandson that night.  I really don't mind.  Even though I was a little tired from garage cleaning, I enjoy this little fellow.
He enjoys playing men and catching fireflies!  Of course he didn't go to sleep until 11:00 that evening.  I was ready to crash long before that.

Daughter #1 has been wanting to go riding with neighbor on his motorcycle.  Hub hated the idea of her even thinking about this.  Hub owned an insurance office for years, and his reply to motorcycle riding was donor cycles.  He really has a fear of riding motorcycles.  But daughter got her chance to ride Sunday.
I enjoyed riding motorcycles when I was growing up in Baltimore.  My uncles rode bikes and I would always tag along.  I don't think I still have the same feeling today-too much traffic and careless drivers on the road.

Looking at my calendar it just dawned on me--I have three days of in service next week-ugh!  It seems like after the Fourth of July, school in service and conferences begin.  I am not ready!!  Hub celebrates his birthday this week!  Time is going by too fast!

Have a great week!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1.  Speaking of 180...when was the last time you 'did a 180' on something?

Last night in Zumba class! I liked to have never gotten this move down!

2. It's Independence Week in the US of A! What's your favorite thing about America right this very minute? Favorites only! Let's hear what you love about America.

If you're playing along today, and you're not an American but have been to America, what do/did you like best about this country? If you've never been to America, do you have any desire to visit? What's the number one thing you'd like to see?

Freedom of speech-even though I dislike (that is a nice word) what is going on in Washington, I am still able to voice my opinion without being killed.

3. Stars or stripes? Red, white, or blue? Watermelon, homemade vanilla ice cream, or blueberry pie?

I must chose two--stars/stipes and watermelon.

4. When did you last see stars, figuratively speaking?

Sunday evening after returning home, I ran into my armoire.  A huge bruise appeared and scratch appeared shorty afterwards.

5.  'Clear as a bell', 'with bells on',  'lots of bells and whistles', 'saved by the bell'...which phrase 'rings' truest for you lately?  Have you ever seen The Liberty Bell?

'Clear as a bell' finally happened.
I have never seen The Liberty Bell.

6. Are you caught up in World Cup fever? Have you watched a lot or a little or none at all?

Not really but I have been keeping up with the USA.

7. Bid farewell to June in 10 words or less.

Schools out, fun-filled week of Bible School, happy 33rd anniversary!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Had a doctor's appointment yesterday, and found out my blood pressure was high.  Couldn't be?  I have never had high blood pressure (even though my mom does) before.  As I was driving home (took the country roads not interstate), I began talking to myself.  I have got to learn to let things go and let God take control.
"I will behave wisely in a perfect way.  Oh, when will You come to me?  I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.  I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me."  Psalm: 101 2-3http://youtu.be/9ylnx0NA9X4
