Saturday 9

I forgot to post yesterday!!!!

Saturday 9: Every Time You Go Away (1985)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about separation. Who is the last person you said goodbye (or maybe just "so long") to?

My grandson and daughter...just goodbye because will see them Sunday in church.

2) This week's featured artist, Paul Young, was a gifted athlete during his school days and briefly played professional football (aka soccer). Sam enjoys playing tennis, though her serve doesn't give Serena Williams anything to worry about. What's something you enjoy doing, even if you don't excel?

I enjoy going to my Zumba class.
3) Mr. Young and his wife Stacy were married for 31 years, until her death in 2018. What do you think is the key to a happy marriage?

My late hub passed away this past November.  We were married 37 years.  I think the key to a happy marriage is not necessary 50/50.  There were many days I needed more than 50 and hub was there for me and vice versa.  You will have disagreements in a marriage but if you truly love someone you will stick it out and not throw in the towel like so many couples do today.
4) Paul Young's performance of this hit song was one of the highlights of the July 1985 Live Aid Concert. This international benefit raised more than $100 million to alleviate hunger in Ethiopia. Tell us about a charity you support.

Relay for Life...I have been supporting this charity since 2010.  Hub was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010....became involved in Relay for Life then.  It took seven years for the ugly cancer to return.
5) This song was written by Daryl Hall, of Hall and Oates. What's your favorite Hall and Oates song?

"You've Lost that Loving Feeling"

6) In 1985, when this song was popular, the New Coke was unsuccessfully introduced. What's the last beverage you drank?

Sweet Tea
7) In 1985, the New York Stock Exchange had to close because of Hurricane Gloria. Has a hurricane shared your name? (Find a list of recent/upcoming storm names here.)

2017 Tropical Storm...Tammy  even though my legal name is Tamara, I go by Tammy.

8) 1985 was the year that the Titanic wreckage was discovered. There have been at least 11 movies and TV shows about the fatal voyage. Have you seen any of them?

Yes, I love anything about the Titanic.

9) Random question: Would you rather own and run a coffee shop or a shoe store? Why?

Hub use to own a coffee shop before he passed away...I was a retired school teacher.
I still go to the coffee shop and make coffee but it isn't like it use to be.

Cooking ...with Wednesday Medley

National Pigs in a Blanket Day - April 24

1.  Typically served as an hors d'oeuvre, have you ever made or had a Pig-in-a-Blanket?  Do you like Pigs-in-a-Blanket?
Yes, I like Pigs-in-a-Blanket
2.  Pigs-in-a-blanket are also known as devils on horseback, kilted sausages, and wiener winks. (Seriously.)  Please make up another name for this fun little appetizer!
Red Hot Poker!!  A hot dog is red and I have heard people call a pig a poker!

3.  In the UK, pigs-in-blankets are small sausages, or chipolatas wrapped up in bacon.  Which country's version is most appealing to your taste buds?
I don't think I would like the UK version of pigs-in-a-blanket.
4.  The first written record of pigs-in-a-blanket occurs in Betty Crocker's Cooking for Kids in 1957.  In this digital world, do you still have a favorite cookbook you use most of the time?  Is there a recipe you can share with us from that cookbook?
I usually pull out my cookbooks as we approach the Christmas season. My favorite is Boiled Custard....here is the recipe....8 eggs (yolks), 1 cup of sugar, 4 Tbsp.flour, vanilla flavoring, 1/2 gal. milk. Directions: Mix egg yolks, sugar and flour. Put milk in double boiler and let milk get hot but not boiling. Pour ingredients in milk and add vanilla. Cook until mixture coasts a spoon. This make 1/2 gallon.

5.  What is your favorite cooking show on TV?
Not really into watching cooking shows on television.  If I do happen to come across one, I would watch the Pioneer Woman.

6.  Tell us something random about your week, please!
I learned how to use the riding mower!!!   I was able to go in reverse instead of circles.
We had a nice Easter...the weather was horrible on Friday and Saturday, BUT the sun came out Sunday!
Have a great week...
Enjoy Life

Easter 2019

I enjoy surprises and I still get my daughters something for Easter along with a bucket full of goodies.

The weather Friday and Saturday was awful...rainy, windy, and cold BUT Easter was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and just a little cool.  At first, we had decided to grill out but changed our plans due to the weather on Friday and Saturday.  I told the girls I would fix Easter dinner.  I know they were skeptical...I am not known as the cook in my family BUT I have met the nicest man....Bob Evans

Thank Heavens for Bob Evans!!!
and some things from our local deli...

Easter Dinner was a success!!

Before the nasty weather set in on Friday, I was able to take little man to the park.

A friend came by earlier to give him an Easter gift.

Being so rainy Friday, I had Blake help make his mom and dad and aunt/uncle an Easter card. He loved putting the stickers on.

Enjoyed the message on Sunday morning at church and there were over 600 people in attendance!!  The best part were 6 baptisms!!!

The girls/hubs and grandson came down later for my famous dinner...again, thanks Bob Evans!

After dinner, it was time to hand out the Easter treats.

Surprise!!!

He was so stinky cute Easter morning.

 Hope your Easter was great.

Until next time....Enjoy Life

Wednesday Medley

1.  Haiku poetry is actually pretty easy to write.  Give it a try right here...
Image result for pollen and sneezing

Springtime
Pollen is nasty
My allergies have started
But I love new growth

2.  Haiku poetry aside, have you ever written a poem?  Will you share it with us?
I use to write poetry when I taught English.

3.  Do you have a favorite poet or does poetry usually make you yawn?
I have a few favorite poets...Emily Dickinson, William Wordsworth, Maya Angelou.

4.  April 17  is National Ellis Island Family History Day, too,  Did any of your ancestors or relatives immigrate through Ellis Island from another country?

I have no idea...I imagine so though.

5.  We also celebrate National Cheeseball Day on April 17th.  Do you have a favorite cheeseball recipe to share with us or have cheeseballs basically disappeared from parties today?

I usually buy my cheeseball...I am not known as a very good cook.  Thinking about your question...the last little get together I attended, I did not see a cheeseball.
6.  If you want to share, please tell us something about your week.
My heart is so sad with the fire at Notre Dame Catherdal....I kept watching the news for ours.
One of my pet peeves is lying...just tell the truth...
“Still I Rise”
“You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.”

Wishing all a Happy Easter....Enjoy Life

Little League, mowing, and the Easter Bunny

I took grandson to the library this past Monday...his first visit.  He loved it!!  They have story hour on Tuesday and I had planned on taking him back for this BUT he fell asleep around 10 and slept for an hour...so I might try this week. And would you believe Tuesday was the only day he had a morning nap???

This past week, the weather has been fabulous!!  The temps have been in  the high 70s and so nice.  I have been taking grandson for a walk daily.

 His hair!!!

Yesterday was opening day for Little League.  The day was being dedicated to my late hub.  I had been asked earlier to throw out the first pitch to begin the season.  I just couldn't do it...not by myself anyway.  I asked another fine man, Dr. Daryl if he would throw out the first pitch and he was honored.  This young doctor...my hub coached him in pony league and then in high school baseball.  When hub had to be put to sleep for many colonoscopies and for his port (the second time), Daryl would come in on his day off to be with hub.  He helped me with hub during his last week when he was so sick.  He is such a fine doctor and he has five children of his own.  There were tears as they read some of hub's accomplishments and tears as Daryl and I stepped on the mound.

I left shortly aftewards..just too hard to stick around and watch some of the games.

When I got home, I decided to cut the grass.  Kenneth, my son-in-law had used the riding mower last week while I used the self-propelled mower.  I hopped on the riding mower deciding to give it a try.  I was able to start it and I put the blade down (I guess that it is the proper term) and I was off.  A couple of hiccups...I didn't know how to put it in reverse.  I looked at the gears...no gears only the gears for the blade...I looked and looked and couldn't find an R for reverse.  I raised up and the mower quit...huh?  I was confused. I stared the mower again and I just kept mowing in circles.  Instead of a nice looking manicured lawn my looks like a doughnut!!  Then the bank hiccup...I was a little timid about the bank so I just decided to use the self-propelled mower on it.  The lawn is finally mowed might not look the best but it doesn't look like a hay field!

I called #2 daughter and told her that I had cut the grass.  I asked her to ask Kenneth about how do I put the mower in reverse...he began telling her but I became confused...I am a hands on person so he will have to tell me as I learn how the next time.  I also told her that every time I raised up the mower would quit...a safety thing she said.  Oh well, I am learning.

They had taken grandson to an Easter Egg Hunt earlier...more like a pick up the eggs deal than hunting for eggs and then to see the Easter Bunny.

He wasn't a huge fan of the Easter Bunny.

My word for 2019 is courage.  I think yesterday...I had to have courage...
Courage at the opening day of Little League and courage to ride the lawn mower.

Have a Blessed Week and Enjoy Life

Sibling Day....Wednesday Medley

Thank you for hosting.

.  Stealing the questions from above:  How many siblings do you have? Are you rivals or do you support each other in all you do?

I have one younger brother.  Our lifestyles and beliefs are totally opposites.

2.  Have you heard of the Birth Order Book?  What are your thoughts on the premise that your birth order affects everything you do in life?

I had not heard of the Birth Order Book.   I truly do not believe your birth order affects all you do in life.  I do believe, we all have a choice and our choices do come with consequences.  I think one of the things that bother me is people saying...oh he/she is the middle child and that is why he/she acts that way...or he/she is the baby of the family and that is why he/she act this way...I think we make excuses for one's behavior way too much.

3.  Is there something that you still do that drives your siblings crazy?

No
4.  Are you closer to your siblings now than you were when you were younger?

My brother and I were definitely closer during our younger years.

5.  Would you dare to tell us an embarrassing story about a sibling?

I do not know any embarrassing stories about my brother.  Ready to read other stories, though!

6.  Tell us something random about your week.

For the past couple of years, this nice highs schooler has been working with us in our pharmacy.  He wants to be a pharmacist one day.  Last week, he asked me if #1 daughter (who is the pharmacist) and I would come to his signing....He has signed to play college football.  I am so proud of this young man.

Grandson and I have been enjoying the warm temps we have been having.

He absolutely loves being outside.
I absolutely love his hair.  The more you try to make it lay down, the worse it gets....#2 daughter, his mom usually puts a cap on him.  Me, on the other hand, just let it show.
I did wet it down, but when it dries, this is the result!!

Have a great rest of the week....AND Enjoy Life
