Weekend Rewind

Spring is in the air.....
We have been blessed with great weather this weekend.

Hub and I went out to dinner Friday evening.  It has been awhile since we were able to do this.  Yes, we have grabbed a sandwich here and there, but for us to go and sit down and enjoy a meal-been awhile.  Truly enjoyed the evening until...the bill came. hub had ordered a $30 steak-that was just for the steak not including his sides and beverages!  Gosh-what were you thinking was my question to him.  His reply, "I wanted it and I ordered it."  Guess it will be another while before we are able to go out to dinner. hehe

Daughter#2 called Friday evening, in a panic. She needed all of her medical records by Monday because she will be starting a rotation round (first one) in the hospital. Looks like to me the school already has this...but no the school needed another proof.  No problem I tell her; we can bring the records to her tomorrow.  Still panicing (I hope this is a word) she asks, "Mom do you know where they are?"  Of course, don't all moms know where the important papers are kept!  Still talking to her, my mind began racing-now I think I put them in a certain place.  Yep, I had!!

The drive to Roanoke was gorgeous.  When we arrived the temps were in the 60s but so much snow was still piled up.

I think Sadie, the dog, missed someone and vice versa....

What's a trip going to seeing daughter, without going to buy groceries?  That was part of daughter's plan. (ahem) After grocery shopping, how one eats so much I will never know..daughter says she is hungry and could we take her out to eat?  Out to eat-huh?  hub please explain why we are going to grab something. Daughter is in the dark on this one...so when hub explains, daughter says well I am worth a $30 steak, aren't I?  We didn't eat steak, but instead decided on eating at the Cookout.  Shortly afterwards, goodbyes and hugs were said and we were on our way home.  On the drive home, hub and I kept remembering how different our life is now and how proud we are of both of our daughters.  Time does go by so fast...doesn't it?

Sunday was another beautiful day.  I had so much school work to do, but couldn't bring myself to come inside to do it.  Now, I am trying to get some papers finished, but...heck too tired from enjoying this weather.  My attitude now is, the papers can wait...the weather can't!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's the biggest change since your childhood in the way people think or act?

The way people act.  I see many people having very little manners, being respectful, or even talking to each other.

2. The Olympic Biathlon involves cross country skiing broken up with either two or four rounds of target shooting. Which part of that would stress you out more? Or would you love them both equally?

The rifle shooting especially if my skiing was awful.

3. February is National Canned Food Month...what is your most often purchased canned food item?  What was in the last can you opened?

Margaret Holmes-Cabbage!!
I love this and it is soo good.
The last can I opened was diced whole potatoes-.Yesterday was our Relay for Life Lunch at school and we were having potato soup.

4. What river (anywhere in the world) would you most like to cruise?

The Seine River in France.

5. It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep...what do you do? Count sheep? Toss and turn? Watch television? Or do you get up and do something productive?

Toss and turn and keep looking at the clock.

6. How important is keeping your cool?

To me, it is very important. but harder than one thinks.  I have great difficulty keeping my cool.  Every morning I say this little prayer and it is on my refrigerator- Dear God, Keep your arms around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth."

7. I've got white stuff on the brain so why not run with it? White lie, wave the white flag, white knuckle it, white wash a situation, or white as a sheet...which phrase could most recently apply to your own life in some way?

White flag--I feel like I should just give up and go with a situation.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Weekend Rewind....

The snowstorm did hit!

The weatherman kept saying it was going to hit...anticipation...it did!  School was cancelled for the remainder of the week (Wed.-Fri)-I think we are up to day 15!  Gosh I dread making up the days!  As a teacher it is okay to hear schools are closed, but now enough is Enough!
So... I went to get grandson from sitter and kept him a few days and nights.  We enjoyed some time in the snow....
Getting ready to play in the snow....

Should I take down my flag???

We made Valentine Cookies....Gosh I am really bored...All knows how I hate to bake..

The cookies were delicious!

Daughter was able to dig her way out of Roanoke and made it home safely!!  Her friends were all home and she wanted some catching up time.....

Friend is stationed in Hawaii...boy was she surprised when she came home...

They (daughter and friends) planned to get together on Saturday for a 'girls night out'-- My house was the meeting place.

They have been best of friends since high school-gosh that was six years ago...
Still close...even after gong their separate ways through college-one went to University of Virginia, one went to Alabama, daughter went to  UVA-at Wise, and the last one attended East Tennessee State University-she is now stationed in Hawaii in the Army as a Lieutenant. Friendships..that is what it is all about.  Even though we may go our separate way...we will remain in touch and still have our 'girls night out'.  The one with the knee brace had a skiing accident--she was clumsy in high school-so I had to tell her that some things never change!!!  Much talk and giggles...and then they headed out....  I still had to remind them to be careful...and don't stay out too late...again..some things don't change, do they?

More snow came last night-just a little over an inch.  It is cold and windy but by the end of the week the temperature is to be in the 60's.  Time to wear flip flop and short sleeves.....:)

Have a great week!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Love the Hodgepodge

1.What makes love last?
Commitment--not many people are committed to marriage.  When something doesn't go their way, instead of trying to work it out, they want to just quit.  True love is realizing that some point in time you may have to give 90% -I have never believed in you give 50% and I give 50%-some days you may have to give more!

2. The Beatles made their US debut fifty years ago this week. Are you a fan? If so, what's your favorite Beatles tune?

I like their music-not really a fan.  Favorite Beatles song--"Hey Jude"

3. Valentine's Day-your thoughts? Do you celebrate in any way? Do anything special for the people you love? Expect anything special from the people who love you?

Hub and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day like we use to with giving each other gifts, etc.  We usually go out to dinner and relax and enjoy each other.  For my daughters, I use to fix a box and send  this to them in college.  I will probably get them a 'little something' this year-both girls love jewelry and I know I can't go wrong with that!!

4. Steak or burger...you have to choose. Now that that's settled, how do you like it?

Burger -well done with all fixing's-which include: mustard, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, bacon, chili, pickles, black olives,  and onion rings.  If you have never had onion rings on a hamburger-you are missing something!

5. The Hodgepodge lands on the birthdate (February 12th) of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America. Lincoln is quoted as saying,'Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test his character give him power.'  Do you agree? Why or why not?

Agree-We all have times when we have had to face adversity and our character is really tested, but I think your character is really tested when you have power and not fall to corruption or abuse the power.

6. Honest Abe's image is featured on the US penny (1 cent coin) so I'm wondering...what do you do with your pennies (or your country's equivalent)?  It's been suggested the US stop making the penny, and two bills have been introduced proposing just that, but neither were approved. What say you?

Keep the penny!

No two dollar bills!

7.  Do you think pop culture deserves serious study?

Yes, because if you want to understand people one must know what influences people.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We are expecting a major snow storm today-be safe all who live in the south.

Now enjoy some music.

Weekend Rewind

Hideous Ballgame

Just a little background....

Daughter came home this weekend from Roanoke to watch boyfriend play Emory and Henry in basketball. Emory and Henry College is only ten minutes from where I live. Her boyfriend attends Bridgewater College.  We have only been to one of his games so we were looking forward to watching him play.
We (hub, both daughters, grandson, and a few other people we had invited also brought their boys) arrived plenty in time to get a good seat (well we thought a good seat).  Five minutes before the game began, a few (12 as a matter of fact) boys came and stood on the bottom bleachers.  I asked if they were going to stand the entire time and "yes" was their reply.  Stands were full by this time, and we thought that will be okay for we were still able to see the game.  The first quarter was okay-the second quarter the 12 boys -or young men, were yelling-chanting phrases that should not have been allowed.  At half time I went to see if an administrator was there-or any college administrator-I was going to voice my concerns.  None could be found. The second half of the ballgame was ten times worse than the first half.  Now, I have been known to yell at ballgames, but nothing ugly, and it is okay with me to yell things like-"That is a bad call", "Come on get in the game" or "Come on pass the ball to other players" but what these young men were yelling was absolutely cruel and hateful phrases.  At one point a person sitting beside of me was told by one of these men to 'shut-up' as she was clapping for the other team-her son plays for Bridgewater.  I was trying my best to keep my mouth shut but when one of these young men turned around and said obscene language and also using obscene finger gesture -I lost it-still keeping calm-I told them loudly how rude they were being-since there were 9 and 10 year old boys sitting with us.  The 12 men-who were being belligeent,  could have cared less.  A young man sitting across the aisle from me, came over and said how embarassed he was-this young man was a junior at the college and he also played baseball there.  This young man was very nice and I asked him did this happen at all the home games (the action of these 12 men) and this young man hung his head down and I knew the answer before he said it.  Bridgewater won-no contest YEAH!!.  and I will be writing a letter to the President of the college and voicing my concerns.  Also, Emory and Henry has many student teachers who teaches in this area and when a professor comes around I will voice my concerns to him/her.  I just become too infuriated thinking about the way these young college men behaved.
After the game, Emily's boyfriend played a little basketball with the younger boys...

Playing basketball with these young boys, made their night!

Sunday was a bright new day-even though the weather outside was dreary-inside my house it was all smiles...

On a lighter note-I made these for my Wee Worship Church Children...

It is a squeeze drink and candy kisses are in the baggies.  The note reads-Happy Valentine's Day-a kiss and a squeeze from Ms.Tammy.  A cute idea from Pinterest.

They make my week so much brighter. A snap shot of some...
Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
How much nicer would the world be if we all could be like little children in our minds and hearts?

Have a great week!
