Wednesday Hodgepodge....February is a Wrap!

 1. Your favorite cleaning product? Do you clean your own house or hire out? Most disliked household chore? What one chore do you not mind so much?

My favorite and the one I use the most is Lysol Disinfecting Wipes.  I can easily grab one and clean around my sink, cooking surface area, doorknobs, my cell phone, etc. just easy to grab and wipe.

I clean my own house but years ago with daughters busy in sports, band, school I just didn't have time to do the cleaning so I had a lady come once a week for me.  Well worth the money.

My most dislike house cleaning chore is cleaning the bathrooms and windows.  I don't mind dusting...this I can see that I have accomplished the task when dusting.

 2. It's Canned Food Month...do you use a lot of canned goods? What are the three canned items you purchase most often? Last thing you made using a canned ingredient?

Guilty of purchasing a lot of canned goods.

If you haven't tried the Margaret Holmes brand...you are missing out.

The last thing I made using a canned  good...homemade potato soup with canned tomatoes...Yummy

 3. Can of worms, anything can happen, can you imagine?, as best I can, kick the can down the road, more than one can take, no can do, not if I can help it...choose an idiom and tell us how you currently relate.

No can do...
I went to fill out my taxes on Friday and when my  CPA told me the amount of taxes I would need to be paying...WOOZA!!!  No Can Do....Definitely a No Can Do!!  other options would have to be available to the IRS for this crazy amount.

4.The last Tuesday in February is National Spa Day. Are you someone who enjoys a day at the spa? Last time you visited a spa? Do you have a favorite spa? Are salons open for business in your area? Have you made changes to your hair and nail routine since Corona hit? In what way?

Love a spa day.  Last time I indulged in a Spa Day was in 2019 in Hawaii...Spa Grande at Grand Wailea Resort...absolutely divine!  This one definitely my favorite.

Oh, I have made changes to my hair...I have...not my hair stylist.  I know when my hair stylist sees me, she cringes at what I do when I decide to give myself a trim.
Nails...I purchased the Red Aspen Nails

Following the directions to a tee, my didn't look anything like the pamphlet said nor did the nails last long...one week and my nails were coming off.

Not all salons are open and the ones that are open  make getting appointments very hard.

 5. Believe it or not this is the last Hodgepodge of the month. In one sentence sum up your February.

Glad the second month of the year is behind me.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

I was able to attend a basketball game last night ...Middle School game.  A player is given 2 tickets and my aunt gave me her hub's ticket (he had taken the second dose of the vaccine and wasn't feeling up to par).  The game was so weird...X marks the spot where one may sit, no jump balls, no spectators from the opposing team (only home team fans), no concession stand...gosh!!  But I was glad to go and see a game in person.
On a brighter note...the weather yesterday was nice and today is going to be gorgeous...temps in the 60s!!  Yay!  I love the sunshine.

Have a great rest of the week!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thanks Joyce!

 1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday which signals the beginning of Lent. Do you mark this season in some way? If so tell us more. Did you grow up 'celebrating' Lent? Is attending church part of your weekly routine? Are churches open for in-person worship where you live?

I did not grow up celebrating 'Lent'.  In years past, I have participated in Lent. Celebrating Lent is a personal thing.  It is your relationship with Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for all of us.  I plan on giving up on NEGATIVITY...thoughts, gossip, etc. during Lent.
My church is open every Sunday (masks aren't required but highly suggested, six feet apart, families sitting together, no communion or offering is passed around).  My church also has a live stream for those who are unable to attend in person.  We have not started in person on Wednesday evenings...again only live stream for this, but I have heard Wednesday evening services are planning to open up in March.
Most churches are open in my community.

2. When is the last time you sat beside a 'real' fire? Do you have a fireplace in your home? Wood or gas logs? Favorite thing cooked over a fire?

Sitting outside by an ACTUAL fire would be about 5 years ago.  Where I use to live there was a built in fireplace outside.  History was told to me that the lady who lived there before us would do her canning outside using this fireplace.  When the evenings would turn cool, hub and I would sit out back, build a fire, and just enjoy each other's company...many world problems were solved around that fire!
I have gas logs in my home.
Favorite food cooked over a fire would be hot dogs and S'mores
When hub and I moved to where I am living now, we purchased a fire pit.  Now, that is just me, I gave the fire pit away.

3. Something that's currently got you fired up?

When a person sacrifices his child for HIS own happiness.  Whisper a special prayer for this child.

4. February also happens to be National Cabbage Day. Who knew? Do you like cabbage? Is cabbage on your menu Wednesday? Of the following cabbage dishes which is your favorite-coleslaw (mayo or vinegar?), sauerkraut, cabbage rolls, cabbage soup, kielbasa and cabbage, grilled cabbage, bubble and squeak, kimchi, or haluski?

I do, like cabbage and will not be on my menu tonight.  Favorite dish kielbasa and cabbage.

5. Do you hang on to pennies? What do you do with them? Last thing you purchased for $1.00? Last thing you purchased for $5.00?

Don't hang on to pennies (will pick one  up if I see it on the ground).  I do have a coin jar I toss my coins in when the change area in my billfold is bulging.  Saturday I went to McDonald's to get me a Coke for $1.04.  I have quit drinking/buying soda and my head was exploding (side effect of vaccine).  I honestly thought the Coke would help my head ache because the coffee was making me nauseous but nothing helped this type of headache.  For $4.09 I splurged on a 6 inch Black Forest Sub from Subway.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Vaccine update...I survived.  The second dose was given on February 11th to teachers.  I had a headache that was awful!  It lasted for a little over 24 hours. Many teachers had body aches.  I was asked if my body ached, I responded that my head hurt so bad I couldn't tell if any other parts of my body hurt or not.

Praying for all those who have no electricity due to the ice storms.  My assistant minister's daughter is in Kentucky and has been without power for a couple of days...many prayers for all.

Everyone stay safe AND Enjoy Life

Love me some Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thank you, Joyce for the questions.

 1. Something little you are loving right now?

It is still is daylight at 6pm!!  Loving it!!

2. Red roses or pink peonies? Red wine or pink lemonade? Red lipstick or pink polish? A cotton candy colored sky or a fiery red sunset? A book-movie-song you love with the word red or pink in it's title?

Pink peonies (I need all the good luck I can get and hear they bring good luck), red wine ( it does help me sleep just a little before bedtime), I love red lipstick and seeing this trend has made me want to try it, but haven't pulled the trigger yet just don't think I can pull this off, a fiery red sunset for sure!
Movie--Pretty in Pink
Song--"Red, Red Wine"

3. What's something you currently have your heart set on doing-going-seeing-or experiencing?

Honestly, nothing huge!  Just going out with some friends for dinner would be nice in this strange season.

4. Who would you most like to have a heart to heart with right now? Is that possible?

Probably my aunt or my close friends.  Possible? Yes!

5. Write an acrostic for the word L-O-V-E.

Love God with all your heart

Our relationship with HIM is important

View the world through HIS eyes

Equally important, LOVE your neighbor

Happy Valentine's Day!

Praying that I can handle the side effects from my second dose of the vaccine, which I will be getting on Thursday.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

 1. Feb 2nd is Groundhog Day in the US of A. Tell us about one day you wouldn't mind living over again, and why you chose that day.

The day (night) January 15, 2018,  I held my first grandson.  Here I was holding this tiny being and crying at the same time.  A love like no other. This tiny being whose life is yours but not your responsibility but one who you would move earth for.

 2. Something you know beyond a 'shadow of a doubt'?

I know beyond a shadow of doubt that no matter what I try to control, God is in control.  I am a slow learner and I have had to learn this lesson over and over.  'Be still and know that I am God' (Psalms 46:10).

3. Give us an example of history repeating itself in some way, in your own life or the lives of your children.

I was 28 when I had my first child and youngest daughter was 28 when she had her first son.

4. Snowed under, snow job, not a snowball's chance, snowbird, on thin ice, snug as a bug in a rug, tip of the iceberg, snowball effect, run hot and cold....choose a wintry idiom and tell us how it best applies to your life right now.

Snug as a bug in a rug.  My school district has gone back to in person learning (still parents choice) so there is no more snow days (ugh) but we teach from home.  Sitting at my kitchen table, looking out the window at the  beautiful snow, teaching from home, and so happy that I didn't have to go outside this morning (temps 18 this morning and I am sure it feels colder than that with the wind chill) I am as snug as a bug in my home!  Make-up on, hair fixed, nice top on, BUT I have on warm sweat pants!!

5. Your favorite sign of spring?

Seeing a crocus appearing .

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Even though we have been remote learning, high school sports have continued. (I know, right?) I need to mention, one player gets one ticket to give to a spectator so hardly anyone there to watch and cheer the team on. The team had their Play Against Cancer Game last week.  My late hub was a HUGE supporter of athletics and a few players shared this with me.

I know hub was smiling from Heaven.

On another note, the twins aren't too fond of the snow.

Have a great rest of the week!  Stay Warm and Stay Safe!!!!
