Weekend Rewind.....


We had a dance after school on Friday-our canned food drive dance.  Admission to the dance: 3 cans of food per person or $3.00.  Most of the students brought canned foods-YEAH!!  Our local food pantry is in great need of food.

Great sunny skies on Saturday.  It was kinda chilly-well down right COLD!!  Hub and I did a few errands.  Last stop was the grocery store, and hub says he wants to grill out-literally.  I said it is too cold for me and he replied not for him.  So we bought a few thing and went home.  Hub grilled out-in the cold with a flashlight.  After dinner, he said it was never too cold for him to grill out.

Rainy, chilly day Sunday. I kept telling hub it looked like snow clouds-I am looking on the bright side!  Hearing Christmas music on the radio had me in the Christmas mood.  I went looking at all the Christmas decorations out and truly enjoyed just browsing.

I have a big week ahead.  It is American Educational Week-and the SCA-Student Council Association-(I am sponsor of) tries to do 'little' things for our faculty/staff, bus drivers, and cafeteria ladies.  We have planned some nice surprises.  Lunch (country ham biscuits, barbecue sausage, breakfast casserole, fruit tray, cheese tray, cheese ball, and some other nice trimmings) will be provided for all faculty/staff on Wednesday.  Usually, we have a faculty/staff breakfast but most teachers were rushed -hard to eat breakfast with 30 kids in your classroom!  So we changed up this year to a lunch instead.  I think it will go over much better.

Since it is American Education Week, please thank a teacher, custodian, bus driver, cafeteria worker, or anyone else who takes care of your child.  No one knows how  so many of us go out of our way to provide for school kids.  A bed was delivered a couple of weeks ago to a student because he was sleeping on the couch and was so tired at school.  When asked why he was so tired, he explained he couldn't go to sleep because of the television.  With more questions-later was found out that this student did not have a bed and was sleeping on the couch.  He couldn't go to sleep with other family members watching television.  A bed (bunk bed) was delivered!  Another incident with others-involved a field trip. One of our school's custodians offered to pay for a student who couldn't afford to go. These are just a few incidents that has happened in the last couple of weeks, and I know there are many, may more stories just like these.... So, say a Thank-you this week to someone you know who is employed in a school system.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. We celebrate Veteran's Day in the US of A on November 11th. When did you last interact with a member of the armed forces (either currently serving or retired)? Have you ever written a letter to a soldier, bought a meal or coffee for a solider, said an unprompted thank you to a soldier you encountered out and about somewhere? If you're not in the US, comment on a similar holiday in your own country.

My youngest daughter's best friend is currently serving in the military in Hawaii.  I guess just opening up my house to her was the last time-which was last December.  I am bad that I don't think a veteran enough for all they have done for me :(

2. You can have fifty pounds of anything at all (except money)...what would you choose?
Oh My!  I would chose fifty pounds of almonds!  I love almonds and they are expensive-every time I walk by them, I think to myself-Gosh-too expensive for me.


3. When did you last receive an invitation in the 'real' mail? What was it for and did you attend? When it comes to RSVP-ing, are you an 'early responder' or a 'last minute, barely-under-the-wire' kind of guest?

This past spring-a wedding invitation-yes I responded and yes I attended!


4. What's something you really don't like to waste?

Food-I keep leftovers but eventually have to get rid of them because with our busy schedules hub and I are seldom home at the same time.

5. Cheers, Friends, MASH, Seinfeld...of the ones listed, your favorite long-running sitcom?

Cheers- sometimes I catch myself humming the theme song.


6. What decision are you glad you made?

The decision to become a Christian.  Also the decision to marry the man of my dreams.

7. In this month of 'Thanksgiving' what is one thing that's different today than it was a year ago that you're grateful for?

Grateful that my dear mother-in-law is no longer suffering.  Death is hard but sometimes death can be a blessing.  It is difficult to watch someone you love dearly, suffer.

Weekend Rewind....

Weekend Rewind...

Jeez...I can't believe how fast this week went.

I know my blog title is Weekend Rewind...and I know I write more than about weekend happenings, but this is just me..

I try to accomplish things (laundry, household chores) during the weeks so I can enjoy the weekend, but there are times when I pack so much into my week that...I am kinda tired when the weekend does roll around.

Friday evening after school, hub told me we were invited out to eat with friends from our church.  My first thought was...I need to do this, I need to do that..but I gave in and went.  A great time of fellowship.  One of our church leaders, who also teaches the young people (elementary age) in our church wanted to get some ideas on having a Bible School in December when the kids are out of school.  Much talk was centered around how we need to keep the children 'fired up' on God.  Great idea!  So glad this person is wanting to try this.

Saturday I had two special visitors-who also wanted to spend the night.  How could I say, No.

After bathes were given, they both crashed around 10:30p.m. It didn't take me long afterwards to 'hit the hay.'

Sunday was a gorgeous day-plenty of sunshine and warm temps.  Later that evening, after church we opened up the Coffee Shop-for pinto beans, Cole slaw, cornbread muffins, and homemade cobbler-peach and blueberry!-   Before anyone is asking-NO I did not cook all of this-we kinda plan the menu a week ahead of time and then divide it out among a few women-(this was my idea and all agreed!) A great time of fellowship.

Looking ahead, my week is somewhat busy.  I think I will be home 2 nights out of 5-NOT Bad.

So Glad to have the weekend....

This past week I had bus duty every morning, a conference to attend Monday evening till 7p.m, a meeting Tuesday after school, Thursday was our county's Parent/Teacher Conference Night, Friday evening opened up the coffee shop after school....so Geez...what more could a girl want??

This week our CMS Relay for Life Team had a pumpkin decorating contest.  Teachers (if they choose to participate) have their first period class decorate a pumpkin. As the students go to lunch, they vote on their favorite pumpkin by placing money in the jug -that matches the pumpkin.  The pumpkin that collects the most money is the winner.  A friendly competition between classes, and a great way to raise moeny for our Relay for Life Team (which is an organization dear to my heart). We had some interesting pumpkin designs---from an ice cream cone, tin man, gumball machine, to cookie monster

My town celebrated Halloween on Saturday.  There was a high school football game on Friday-Senio Night-so Trick-or-Treat was schedule for Saturday.  Woke up on Saturday to frigid temps and snow on the ground.

I imagine my flowers will not last much longer.

Despite the frigid temps, we still had many little ones braving the cold to trick-or treat.  Usually, I get all excited about seeing the little ones, but this year I was in a hurry to leave-our Praise Band from the church I attend was schedule to go sing at an Your Rally-this had been  planned months in advance.  Since daughter was singing, I was in a hurry to leave.  After about 30 trick-or treaters I closed the blinds, turned off the lights, and headed out the door.  I love listening to our Praise Band sing contemporary gospel, I think they are the best band I have heard-maybe a little partial here, ahem, but they are great.  All who came out on this cold, raining, night received a blessing.

I can't believe we are in the month of November!  Now let all the holiday festivities begin!

Weekend Rewind....

Weekend Rewind....

Which began with some spooky stories on Thursday night.  

The elementary school has a spooky story night the week before Halloween.  I am sure much work is done to prepare for this.  I was called three weeks ago and asked if I could come and read to the children-ghost stories.  Immediately I volunteered hub.  Upon arrival at the school, we knew exactly where to go and what was required of us.  The children were dressed up in their Halloween costumes and all eyes were on hub as he read.  Not only did hub read, but so did a fellow colleague of mine.  Oh!  just to see the children's eyes and how they were listening (well, most were)

The reading Fright Night was a success.

A gorgeous, clear, blue day on Saturday.  

I attended two parties on Saturday.  One was a birthday party, which began at 11.


The second was a baby shower for daughter's pharmacy tech.  I loved the 'Bee' Theme-so cute.

If you left hungry, then it was your own fault.

The mother-to-be requested books instead of cards.  Another great idea.  Cards get thrown away, but books will last a life time.

The cake was scrumptious!

The baby is due December 1, 2014.  I am positive she will be a wonderful mother.

Her and daughter get along well with each other at work.  According to hub, sometimes act more like sisters.  She is definitely an asset to our pharmacy and we wish her the best of luck.

Later that evening, the weather was still cooperating-nice and warm, hub grilled out dinner.  It is still nice to be able to grill out this time of year.

Sunday was another gorgeous day!  The weather is expected to hit the upper 70's for the next to days!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Elizabeth Lawrence is quoted as saying, 'Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn." So have you done just that? And what did you leave undone in order to do so?

Nope--this is the biggest criticism I get from my family.  My family usually tells me that I need to stop and smell the roses.

2. Since we're talking turning...what's one thing you feel you're doing 'every time you turn around'?

Paperwork, laundry, cleaning, putting 'little' items away for future bride-(haven't started anything major yet), Oh My!  I named more than one and I could go on and on and on....


3. How hard is it for you to 'turn the other cheek?'

That depends on the situation.  Mostly, I am okay with turning the other cheek but it is really difficulty for me to turn the other cheek when the behavior is repetitive.  This was our discussion Sunday evening during Bible Study.  How can you deal with a situation when the person is continually doing the same repetitive behavior towards you?  My thoughts-try to really show your Christianity by continually forgiving-or turning the other cheek-look how many times Christ has forgiven me or I just remove myself from this person (which is hard sometimes because of family circumstances).

4. When did you last turn a drawer, your car, a room, or your entire house upside down looking for something? Did you find it?

Last week, I had misplaced my cell phone.  I am not one to continually rely on my cell phone and I should since hub took out our land line-ugh!!  I was looking EVERYWHERE!  Then, ding, I remembered, I had left it at school-where I always put it-in my desk drawer.

5. 'One good turn deserves another'...were you most recently on the giving or receiving end of that sentiment?

6. Red, yellow, and orange are the colors of fall. Also the colors of fruit. If you were permitted only one color of fruit in your diet, which would you choose? This question isn't as easy as it sounds, at least not for me.

Yellow-I like: yellow apples, grapefruit, pineapple of course if you throw in orange-how about cantaloupe, lemons, and tangerines.  Most definitely a question that made me think.  My first thought would have been red-but then I realized I don't much fruit that is red-except for an apple, but then I eat green apples.

7. The Hunt for Red October, October Sky, Halloween...which 'October' film is your favorite?

Gasp!  Haven't seen any films with the title 'October'.

My class has been reading the book, Wonder to go along with bullying.  I really like Mr. Browne's idea using precepts.  My two  favorite ones are: "Kind words do not cost much.  Yet they accomplish much." Weekend Rewind....

Another misty, cloudy, cool weekend.  This year, October has been very wet.  Usually, October is a dry month, but so far we have record rainfall.

Saturday, was the day to just curl up on the couch and read a good book.  Which I didn't do-because I just couldn't make myself do it.  Mainly because I know for the next two weeks I will not be home a single night so instead of curling up on the couch and reading I tried to do some cleaning and laundry.  This was okay since the weather was not the type of weather one would like to be out in.

Sunday-the sun was shining.  After church we brought a couple cutie pies home with us-both grandkids.

I think he was a little tired....

'Little Man' was riding his truck..when-oh no-the truck would not go into reverse.  Hub and him began working on it.  Of course, 'Little Man' wanted to make an appointment and have his truck fixed.  Hub convinced him to let him give it a shot first...

Luckily, the truck was fixed and off he went...

He really enjoys driving the truck forward, then reverse, and then parking the truck-backing in of course.

Ready or not the week is waiting for me-a full week filled with many things to do....
