Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. It's March 15th and as the saying goes-"Beware the Ides of March". Have you read or studied much Shakespeare? Do you have a favorite Shakespeare play? How do you feel about a Caesar salad?

Teaching English, yes have studied and read a lot of Shakespeare.  My favorite is a "MidSummer's Night Dream."

Caesar salad...YES!

2. Have you ever been to Rome? If so what do you love about the city? If not, any desire to go?

I have never been to Rome.  Before the pandemic (that January as a matter of fact) friends and I were planning a trip to Italy and Rome was on our bucket list. Maybe one day we will get to go.

3. What's your favorite place to 'roam'?

My backyard!

4. Do you like pizza? Thick or thin crust? Red sauce-white sauce-other? Your favorite toppings? How do you feel about pineapple on a pizza?

I prefer a thin crust veggie pizza with red sauce.  Bring on the pineapples!!

5.  'Rome wasn't built in a day'...tell us how this expression applies to something in your home-life-job currently (or recently)?

Not much currently that I can relate to this expression, BUT hub loved to take an older home and remodel it.  He could vision the finished product!  Not me, I wanted to vision the remodeling house now!  He would always say, "Rome wasn't built in a day" and I would respond, "I know that but this is taking way too long."

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am leaving Thursday for a Christian Women's Retreat in Tennessee.  I am looking forward to this weekend.

So Enjoy Life!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. Where do you get your news these days?

Mostly from close friends, who research it all.  These friends keep me updated and let me know what to prepare for.

Watching the news makes me nervous and I don' t know who is telling the truth or not.  I will watch my local news, but the world news, I don't.

2. It's National Crab Day...do you like crab meat? What makes you crabby?

I love crab meat and steamed crabs with all the seasoning, oh yeah how I love these.  When I lived in Baltimore, my uncles would take me on the Chesapeake Bay crabbing!

What makes me crabby is seeing and hearing parents being so ill to their children.  You know, parents have bad days, but as a parent we don't expect children to have bad days.

3. Does freedom mean more choices? Have you ever felt there were too many choices? Elaborate.

I think freedom means more choices AND more choices mean more freedom.  Making choices for ourselves is an important part of who we are. People want to have greater control over their lives, my opinion.  I am grateful, I live where I do, to exercise my freedom and not in some undeveloped country.

Definitely too many choices!!  Just walk down a toothpaste aisle...Whitening, Mint flavor, Regular, Gum toothpaste, organic toothpaste or order from a menu at a restaurant drinks...coffee (with or without cream, milk...white or condensed, with or without sugar (cane sugar or white sugar)  water (with or without lemon or do you want mineral water) AND this is just choices your have before even ordering your entree!  Sometimes this causes me to have anxiety!

4. Barbara Millicent Roberts was introduced to the world on March 9, 1959...that's Barbie to most of us. Did you have Barbies as a kid, or did you let your own children play with Barbies? What well known Barbara (living or not) would you most like to meet?

I had Barbies as a kid and my girls had Barbies.  I have about 6 totes of Barbies my girls collected, especially the Holiday Barbies.

I would like  to meet two Barbara(s).  The first would be Barbara Bush just to sit and talk about her literacy organizations.

The second Barbara would be Barbara Eden.  I would like to ask her how I could fit into that bottle and just escape some of the noises of this world!

5. What are three things you value most in another person?

Integrity

Kindness

Loyalty

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today is the twins birthday.  TWO years old today and TWO years on that Friday when being discharged from the hospital, the world stopped!

We celebrated their birthday Sunday because it was such a nice day (high 70s with blue skies) and this Sunday it is suppose to snow.

With all the 'craziness' going on, these boys bring me joy and my heart smiles.

Have a Great rest of the week and Enjoy Life!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Marching into the Hodgepodge.  Thank you Joyce for the questions.

From this Side of the Pond

1. Somehow it's March? Is it coming in like a lion where you live? Tell us one fun thing on your March calendar.

March is coming in like a lamb with blue, sunny skies.  The temps have been in the 60s and expected to hit 70 by the weekend!!

A fun thing on my calendar is a short trip in a couple of weeks.  Heading to Tallassee, Tennessee for a Christian Women's Retreat.

2. In what way(s) do you 'march to the beat of your own drum'?

I don't think I really 'march to the beat of my own drum.'  I really try to be considerate of people.  I guess I march to the beat of my own drum when it comes to honesty and being flexible.  To truly be yourself in the world of social media, comparison is tough.  As I get older the phrase, "be yourself" is really good advice.

3. The Hodgepodge lands on Dr. Seuss Day (March 2nd). Do you like eggs? How about ham? Share a favorite quote from one of his books.

Yes, I like eggs and ham.

A favorite quote...You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

4. Have you read Little Women? How about Alice in Wonderland? Did you love them, like them, feel just eh about them? Why is this question in the Hodgepodge today?

Yes, I have read both and loved Little Women and felt just eh about Alice in Wonderland.

Little Women--March sisters and Alice in Wonderland March Hare.

5. How do you meal plan? How often do you shop for groceries? One homemade meal that was on your menu last week or is on your menu this week?

Living by myself, I very rarely meal plan, but I use to.  I usually shop for groceries twice a month unless I have company coming.  I made homemade spaghetti Sunday and took some to my mother.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I have been going to basketball games.  My cousin is a senior and I didn't want to miss any games. They won the district  and the district tournament.  So proud of them, but unfortunately they lost last Thursday which means they couldn't go on to State. But they had a great ride.

Next week, these twins turn TWO on March 9th.

Oh how I love these boys!

Have a great rest of the week and Enjoy Life!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. February 16th is National Almond day...are you a fan? If so what's your favorite food item or recipe that contains almonds?

A huge fan of almonds; they are my g0 to snack.  I don't have a recipe that contains almonds but anxious to see others.

2. Something you are currently 'nuts' about?

I am definitely 'nuts' about these three precious boys.

3. Something currently driving you 'nuts'?

People, my age or a year or two younger, drying out their dirty laundry on Facebook.  I just cringe.  If you have a problem, then tell that person but don't put it out on Facebook.  It is just ugly and I lose all respect for the person that posted that comment.I have begun to not look at Facebook much simply because of this reason.

4. Something you recently bought for 'peanuts'?

Oh my goodness....with the prices these days....NOTHING!

5. Share a favorite quote uttered by any U.S. President ( if you're not an American, a quote made by the leader of your own country).

"Leave nothing for Tomorrow which can be done today."  Abe Lincoln     I need to practice this more especially when it comes to laundry and yard work.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Basketball season is over for my grandson, who is in the 7th grade.  The team won it all and were the Champions!

I enjoyed watching him play and was so glad to snap this picture of us together without anyone noticing.

I miss this boy so much!!!

But now...I have been attending high school basketball games to watch my cousin who is a senior this year.

This has really help past the loooong winter nights.

Have a great rest of the week.  AND Enjoy Life

Sunday Stealing....

I am joining Bev Sykes of the blog, "Funny the World"

Guest or Host

I have been a guest and a host .  I was a guest a few weeks ago in a friend's house and I felt like it was my home.  So no problem being a guest.

Host--sometimes I get so OCD when it comes to hosting...is my house spotless, does everything match, do I have enough food, did I invite all, It can be overwhelming.

I really don't know which one I would prefer!! Ha

When I feel fancy, I wear

I try something completely new

I very, very, rarely try something completely new.  Always afraid I will mess up and knowing me, I would!

Weddings

They make me cry...until the reception.

Ever had something customized

Can't say that I have.  BUT I have received customized gifts...coffee cups, calendars

Do you cook spontaneously or mean plan?

Since it is only me, I cook spontaneously, However, this last month, my grandson is playing basketball, so I have kinda planned out my meals...mainly making sure I have enough snacks on hand when I get home like cookies, potato chips and of course popcorn.

Books I have reread

None completely.  There are some books, I occasionally pick up and skim through every now and then.

I am really good at

Too many things to list!! ahem   My friends often call on me to come and help them clean!

Windows Open or a Fan On while sleeping

Neither!

Easiest Recipe

and it is so tasty!!!!

Conversing with strangers

I am somewhat comfortable starting a conversation with strangers; it just depends on where I am at the time.

Quiet or ambient noise when relaxing

Ambient noise when relaxing I like.  If it is too quiet, like hearing a pin drop, then that is not for me.

Most adventurous or exciting friend

It would have to be a ole college friend.  She is still adventurous...wanting to move clear across the country from Georgia to Colorado, raises ducks, etc.  It would definitely be my college friend/roommate.

When I can't decide what to eat, I eat

OR

Funny pet stories

I don't have any pets (at the moment :)  )
