Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's changed in your life, home, or community since your last birthday?

Image result for changes
From July 3rd till now....
Life has thrown us another curve ball.....last May #1 daughter did not get the best heart check-up...I know a long time from May (2016) to March (2017) for next appointment.  I have days that I cry and  cry and cry...but a friend (my sorority sister ) said the long  time between the next appointment  just gives us all more time to cover her in prayers.  So when I feel a tear coming on...I do shed some, but I also whisper a prayer for my daughter.

My home has changed because I moved!!

My community has not changed still a quiet little town until a home football game and one would think it is the NFL playing.

2. September is Classical Music Month. Do you like/listen to classical music? If so what's a favorite piece and/or who is a favorite composer?

No....I did when both daughters played the piano.  I could always tell the kind of day daughters had by the song choice they played on the piano.  I miss those days!

3. Besides The Bible, what's a book that has positively changed your life, relationships, career, or perspective? How so?

Well, I came across this book when moving...

Read this book a long time ago.  I thumbed the book and found little side notes I had made..now I know why I have kept this book for so long.  A good upbeat book that can raise one's spirit.

4. I read (here) these ten hobbies will make you smarter...play a musical instrument, read voraciously, meditate regularly, work out your brain (puzzles, sudoku, board games, etc), exercise often, learn a new language, write your feelings down (blog, journal, just write), travel to new places, cook different kinds of meals, participate in sports actively

Are any on this list your current hobbies? Which hobby on the list would you be most inclined to try?

I do read voraciously, exercise on Monday evenings for 2 hours, and write my feelings down.  I use to play a musical instrument many years ago.

Most incline to try....

5. What sports traditions does your family have?

No sports traditions here  :(

6. In a few words, weigh in on the current football/National Anthem brouhaha. Keep it family friendly please.

RESPECT....is what is lacking.  Many years ago, I would play the song RESPECT for my students.  This was all I wanted in the classroom and in return would RESPECT each student as well.
Respect our country.

7. Where do you have loads of patience, and where do you most lack patience?

A pat on the back here...I have patience with hub.  When I see hub becoming agitated, I use a calming voice and try to smooth things over....patience.
I lack patience with trying to communicate with someone on the phone (Internet help, settling a claim, etc.) I have caught myself saying....left foot, right foot, breathe...repeat.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Still enjoying the warm nights.

Hello There

Hello There!

I have been a tensy bit busy--yes I am retired but....life gets busy some days.
Image result for hats off to kindergarten

Last week  I worked as a kindergarten teacher for three days!!  Going from 8th grade to kindergarten...now that is a plunge!  Hats off to all kindergarten teachers.  I did enjoy the three days, but I was exhausted.

Finally getting use to my new surroundings....when moving and trying to find where I have I put things...this is a chore!

I haven't gotten back into my walking.  Last night, I told myself today would be the day.  Guess what?  didn't happen...so maybe tomorrow BUT when I looked at my calendar it is jammed packed from 9-4 and then at 6:30 I have a meeting to attend.  I do want to get back in the swing of walking because I do feel better but I can't seem to get back in the groove.

Like to introduce all to the newest member of our family:

Tidbits

Tidbits....

Image result for moving
We have moved!!  Two weeks ago started the big move.....and all is well.  Some interesting observations when moving.....when big heavy furniture is moved...some think you are finished, finding all the little things you have tucked away, finding all the things you kept and can't remember why, tossing away things that were used back in the 80's, .....SHEW!  This move did cost me a broken toe and a knot on my forehead!  Still finishing up the little stuff.

I did give both daughters 'little keepsakes' packed away in a nice huge tote.  #2 daughter gave them back for me to keep in storage so I am waiting on #1 daughter to return hers as well!

Besides moving I have also done some subbing for a few teachers.  It felt good getting back into school and seeing ole friends.

Enjoy your Labor Day.  The weather is looking good in my neck of the woods!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. It's National Waffle Day (August 24th)...what decision are you currently 'waffling over'? (or share one you've recently 'waffled over')

We moved last week!!!  So I am still in the process of 'waffling over' where to put all my furniture....when down sizing one must get rid of furniture, right?  Not happened here....

2. It's the middle of August, but I'm already seeing lots of autumn-related posts. Do you think we rush the seasons? If so, does that bother you? I saw (here) an end of summer bucket list that included-

make s'mores, read a new (or favorite) book in the park, eat something delicious and bad for you at a state fair, be a tourist for the day, have a pot luck picnic, book a last minute summer getaway, relax by or in the pool, take a hike to watch the sunset, have a day on the lake, try a new summer recipe

I think we rush the season.  I am ready for cooler temps and by cooler I mean 70's, but I am not ready for fall.  I still want to enjoy sitting outside to the wee hours of the morning and grilling out.  Heck the other day I saw halloween 'stuff' out in the department stores!!

Which activities on the list might you squeeze in before summer officially comes to a close?
Will try to squeeze in a last minute summer getaway is on my list.

3. Your favorite summertime 'art' found in nature?

Beautiful sunsets.

4. Stephen R. Covey is quoted as saying 'We judge ourselves by our intentions, and others by their actions.' Agree or no? Do you define yourself based on your intentions, your actions, or something else?

I guess I sometimes define myself on my intentions but then it I evaluate myself (critically) by not getting doing what I intended to do.
I judge others by their actions and I am working hard to try to not do this so harshly anymore.  All of us have a story and not one of us really knows the other person's story entirely.

5. Are you useful in a crisis? Elaborate.

Nope....I panic.

6. What's been your go-to dish this summer? Is it something you'll continue making as the seasons change?

I haven't really had a go-t0-dish-mainly just fruit and junk food.

7. Adult coloring books are a thing now. Have you jumped on the bandwagon? If not is this something you think you might enjoy?

I attended a coloring book party a few months ago.  Did I find this relaxing????  I kept thinking about all the other 'stuff' I needed to get done and here I sat coloring!
The big thing going on now is having a Pearl Party and opening up oysters and seeing the pearl you have gotten.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Like I mentioned earlier, finally moved.  However, still have a lot of the little things to move and unpack.  Shew!  It is the little things that take sooo much time.

Some Happenings

Some happenings this past few days.

First stop:

Raleigh, North Carolina
Daughter attended a trade show and I went with her for the weekend.  I do not know much about the pharmacy business, but the Mutual Drug Company treats everyone like family.  I must admit, I am so proud of daughter's accomplishments because it warms my heart to hear people brag about her and what a fine job she is doing.

Second stop:

Image result for pigeon forge tn

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

After returning home on Sunday evening, hub and I took grandson to Pigeon Forge on Tuesday.  First I need to say it was hot!!!

We played Mini Golf
Glad I took picture before playing if not we all three would have looked like we had just come out of a sauna!
Rode bumper cars

Hub and grandson rode go karts.  Grandson is still not tall enough to ride by himself so I volunteered hub to ride with him! Watching them ride I am glad I volunteered hub because some of the adults take go kart riding too seriously for me.

Played games in the arcade

Yep, the big winner.  Grandson put four tokens in and won 1,000 tickets on the first try!!

Third stop:

Image result for dollywood theme park

We spent two days at Dollywood Theme Park

So many rides to ride.
So happy he could ride by himself.
I like going to some of the shows, but with a young boy excited to get on rides, it is hard to do it all.

The picture is blurry---I am blaming it on my sweaty palms but I paid this nice young fellow to win a basketball for grandson.  Hub had tried winning....but just couldn't.  When grandson was on a ride, I was watching this young man shoot basketball. The boy couldn't miss!!  I walked over and asked him (he was standing with his mom) if he would shoot the basketball for my grandson.  I paid him and told him No Pressue!! yeah right?  The first shot he took the ball went in.  After grandson got through riding the boy presented the ball to him.  Both boys were happy!

Love this picture.

One of hub's favorite places to eat is the Blue Moose.  It is just a simple hamburger and wings place.  Grandson and hub gets to watch television-sports I need to add and enjoy a simple meal.

Our short trip ended on Friday.  We headed home this being the fastest four days ever!  Grandson was leaving on Friday heading to Destine, Florida with his dad and younger brother.

Saturday, I planned on packing up a few things...we are moving but I just wasn't in the mood.  I think one has to be in the mood to pack, don't you?  I have now told hub that I would start packing up a few things this Saturday (August 14th).  School begins Wednesday in my county and I have been asked to sub the first few days so I need to rest Monday and Tuesday to get ready for Wednesday!  Summer seems to go by faster and faster.

Until next time....Enjoy Life.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your summer so far? Why?
(1=eh and 10=best summer ever)

A  5 -this not certainly being the best one ever-not very close.  A lot of unforseen circumstances creeping up.  On the other hand, not the worst one.

2. July 26th is National Aunts and Uncles Day. Did you have many aunts and uncles growing up? Were you especially close to any one or maybe all of them? Are you an aunt? (or uncle for the men who join here on Wednesdays) Share a favorite memory relating to one of your own aunts or uncles or relating to a niece or nephew who call you Aunt (or Uncle).

Growing up I would go back to Baltimore and spend the summer with my grandmother, my aunt and my uncle.  I have a special aunt and uncle...While spending the summer with both of them I have so many fond memories....baking candy to sent my uncle who was in Vietnam, going to work with my aunt (secretary at the VA Hospital in Fort Howard, Maryland).  I can remember not wanting to go come back home to Virginia.  My aunt now lives in Ohio and has lung cancer.  My uncle passed away a year ago...he named his second daughter after me..Tamara.  I wish I could turn back time some days.

3. What's your favorite food dipped in chocolate? What's your favorite food dipped in cheese?

No shaking heads please...but I don''t have a favorite food dipped in chocolate or cheese.  I just love a plain ole chocolate candy bar and maybe just a plain ole' cheese dip for chips.

4. When were you last astonished by something? Explain.

I was astonished Sunday!!  not a good situation but sometimes one has to overlook people's actions.

5. Surf board, paddle board, ironing board, Pinterest board, score board, clip board, bulletin board...which board have you most recently encountered?

Last week ironed a few shirts--wrinkles bother me.

6. What's your favorite story from scripture? Why that story?

I don't think I could choose just one....Right now, my favorite would be when Jesus Heals the paralyzed man. My oldest daughter is facing a third open-heart surgery and I know Jesus can intervene and heal her.  My thoughts on this story is I bet the paralyzed man did a little dance on the way home.
The one that I hold dear to my heart always is the resurrection of Jesus-without this, how can one have hope.

7. If you were to travel from the east coast to the west coast in your own country, which five cities would you most want to see?
St.Louis-The Gateway Arch, New Orleans-French Quarter, Omaha-just to see this place. Flagstaff-want to see the Grand Canyon, Los Angelos-Hollywood walk of Fame

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We started some moving on Monday and still have a long way to go.  I have been asked to sub the first day of school which will be August 10th this year. I don't think we can be moved by then.

But had a great weekend--some corn hole playing, go cart riding, and a picnic.
 Daughter taking a stroll.
Daughter relaxing after her stroll.
Hub was champion of corn hole.
Even though it was a scorching hot day, the trees provided us with a cool shade.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. I saw a meme on Instagram that went like this-' The movie Dirty Dancing came out in 1987 and was set in 1963, so if remade in 2026 it...
