Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. Does anybody really know what day it is? Last week we skipped the Hodgepodge and I just assumed this week would find us in December, but nope. Still November. Do you wear a watch? Use a paper calendar or strictly electronic? What's your favorite hour of the day? Why?

Yes, I wear a watch.  I have a (IDK what you call it that keeps track of my steps)!!  If I don't have a watch on, I feel naked!!  I use both a paper calendar and an electronic calendar.  I like when my watch dings that reminds me of an event.  Call me ole school but I still write stuff down on my paper calendar.

2. Tell us something about how you celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday.

Keith, my son-in-law, and I spent Thanksgiving morning delivering 98 meals to families.  This is something I have been doing for at least 20 years.  My church sends out a list of food items that people sign up to bring (turkey, slaw, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and pies).  People have to have all the food at the church by 8am, another group of people are there at 9am packing the boxes, and another group there by 10am to begin delivering the food.

3. What's a sound you hate to hear?

I hate to hear the sound of ambulance or fire trucks.  My heart just stops and I try to whisper a prayer for safety for all involved.

4. Where do you not mind waiting?

I do  not mind waiting in line at a movie theatre.

5. I really wish____________________________________.  I really wish people would be kinder!  No one really knows what another person is going through.  The holiday seasons can be so difficult and what does it hurt a person to just be kind? Heck, we should be kind all the time.  Words hurt, but a smile makes someone's day.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Decorating has begun at my house!  Thanks to my grandsons!

Have a great rest of the week and Enjoy Life!!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. Are you too hard on yourself or not hard enough? Elaborate.

I think I am too hard on myself.  I do something silly and I call myself stupid.  If I can't do something, I beat myself up about it.   I also feel very guilty when I make a mistake and this guilt lasts for days.  I am not the person that says to myself, 'just get over it'.

2. What's the role of gratitude in your life?

I try to practice gratitude daily thanking God for giving me another day.  Gratitude puts my mind in a positive state.

3. Where do you get your news these days? How much attention are you giving it currently?

I do try to listen to my local news occasionally just for weather and sports.  I very seldom listen to the world news because it makes me too depressed.

4. Do you like potatoes? Last time you prepared potatoes in some way? Which of the following is your favorite...baked potato, mashed potato, french fried potato, sweet potato, hash brown potatoes, roasted potatoes, or potato salad?

I like potatoes.  Last time I prepared potatoes were baked potatoes.  Hard to choose...baked potato, potato salad, and sweet potato are my favorites.

5. Are you a veteran? Are there any veterans in your family? Will you do anything special to honor them on Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day this year?

I am not a veteran.  My uncles (deceased) were veterans.  They fought in WWII and Vietnam.  I don't do anything special to remember them...they are buried in Baltimore.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

The weather has been so nice lately.  I am lovin it!!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Besides Thanksgiving (in the USA) what's one thing you're looking forward to in November?

I am going to the movies this Saturday.  I don't like going to the movies by myself, so glad I have someone to go with.

Then in a couple of weeks, I will be traveling to Roanoke to see a friend.

2. Do you like candles? Your favorite scent? How often do you burn a candle in your home?

I like candles and love the smell of cinnamon.  Candles are burnt regularly or the tart warmers.

3. What gadgets did you use today?

Laptop, cell phone

4. This question is a repeat from one asked in November of 2014, but I liked it so it's coming round again. Many of you weren't here in 2014. Okay, you can have fifty pounds of something (anything but money)...what will you choose? Also, since I mentioned it... .what were you up to in November of 2014?

I have been introduced to Pickle Potato Chips and fallen in love!!  I just can't eat enough of these. I am splitting up my 50lbs....25lbs of Pickle Potato Chips and 25lbs of White Zombie drink.

5. 'Tis the season...what's something you're feeling especially grateful for today?

My late husband's cousin.  This cousin checks on me regularly and when I need something (oil change, air in tires, batteries to replace keys) he is 'Johnny on the spot'.  Most of the time, he just makes sure I am okay.  I am grateful for him daily.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am entering my 'season'.  I am wishing for February to hurry up.  Hub passed in November, , then there is Christmas, oldest daughter's birthday in December, and then oldest daughter passed away in the wee hours on January 1st.  I call this my 'season' cause of all the grief I still experience. I have learned that grief and joy can co-exist, at least for me.  Prayers would be appreciated.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on 'Back To The Future Day'. October 21, 2015 was the date the movie characters (Marty McFly, Do...
