Wednesday Hodgepodge








1.  Did you do anything 'memorable' this past weekend?

NO! not by my choice  Image result for sad face I love to do get out and just enjoy; however, hub does not.  When the girls were younger, we would go and leave hub behind.  Now that the girls are older and have a life of their own, I do not like going places by myself.  I need to get over this and just go.  I hate sitting at home!  Hub is so content on just sitting and doing nothing.


2. Ronald Reagan is quoted as saying-

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."  

Your thoughts? Do you somehow acknowledge and appreciate the freedoms you enjoy? Did your upbringing contribute to that sense of appreciation? If you're a parent, are there specific things you do to pass on this sense of responsibility and appreciation to your own children in regard to the freedoms they enjoy?

Freedom I have always cherished.  It is so hard for me to not make kids stand when saying the Pledge or stand when the National Anthem is sung!  So hard for me to bite my tongue.  My parents showed me what freedom was all about and this I have passed down to my daughters.

3. Loudest noise you've ever heard?

Fireworks-the great big boom!  I loved watching the fireworks when living in Baltimore and the louder the better.  Living in a small town, the fireworks aren't that amazing but I still enjoy going.  I use to take daughters, and daughter #1 always kept her ears covered and eyes closed.  She still does not care for the loud boom fireworks!

4. What was the last thing you ate that might be considered 'junk food'? Did you enjoy it?

Potato chips.  I seem to crave potato chips nightly.

5. When was the last time you were somewhere the crowd felt 'packed in like sardines'?

At church=Christmas Eve Communion is packed--around 300 extra people attend-which is a good thing.

6. Are you organized when it comes to packing for a trip? Do you make a list weeks in advance or toss items in last minute? Are you a carry-on only sort of packer or do you need an entire suitcase for your shoes?
I am OCD in this area!  Organized-you betcha! make a list-Most Definitely a few weeks ahead!!  When daughter played travel basketball, I became a carry-on and still am today! -not much a luggage user-but boy I can really pack a carry-on neatly!!

7. What was the last sporting event you attended in person? Did your team win? Did you care?

Grandson plays T-Ball so going to his games for the past couple of months.  One aspect of T-Ball-NO ONE KEEPS SCORE!

It still amazes me why people (who are in their mid 30's) with children  still tend to act like they are a teenager.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1.  Did you make someone laugh yesterday? Was it intentional?

I think I did--I seem to always come out with something.
Grandson is in to wrestling, and on Monday he and I were wrestling.  I put my hair in a ponytail and after Grandson put a 'move on me' my ponytail wasn't a ponytail anymore. I could make out the comment as hub was laughing..look at your hair.

2. What's a simple question with a complicated answer?

How can the government be so far in debt? Where does our money go?

3. Rhododendrons or azaleas...you have to choose. Are either currently blooming in your yard?

4. May 21st is National Waitstaff Day. Have you ever worked as a waiter/waitress? How would you rate the experience? What was the best/worst part of the job?

I have never worked as a waitress.  In my opinion, I think being a waitress would be very difficult because a waitress/waiter is usually the person who is blamed for the meal not being served correctly as ordered.

5. What fashion trend for women should be outlawed? How about one for men?

For women-outfits that show too much skin!!  What happened to modesty?  For men-pants hanging below the waist-I don't want to look at their underwear colors!!


6. Name a writer who inspires you....now tell us why.

Maya Angelou, a woman who defied the odds.

7. What well known quote or saying sums up your plans for today or this week?
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” As I think about retiring, I hear so many people say to me -just collect your pay and quit doing all this work-but I have a passion for wanting my students to learn!

I had a busy weekend....Friday evening I attended a church meeting-some new ideas were given and hub and I sat on the porch and talked to the wee hours of the morning discussing this.  Saturday was Relay for Life..(something dear to my heart) and Sunday I traveled to Durham, North Carolina to attend a stockholders meeting.  Shew...I was glad to return to school on Monday.

Hub is a 5 year survivor!! He and I both still shed tears during the survivor's walk.

Wednesday Hodgepodge







First I am so glad to be participating-have had my plate overloaded!!!

1. When is your next big deadline? What's it for?

Deadlines..... I need to finish moving daughter our of her apartment before May 25th.  Went last Saturday to pack up pictures, dishes, etc. but did not have a U-haul available.  It is going to be somewhat difficult because hub can't lift over 10lbs doctor's order!  But I will manage--this is big for me because if I am unable to finish moving her then I will have to pay another month's rent.  The end of the school year is approaching so I continue to get bogged down with paperwork.  Oh yeah-I am still planning a wedding in August.

2. May is National Barbecue Month. Do you prefer cooking indoors or out? What's the best thing about a barbecue? What's the last thing you cooked on an outdoor grill?

Hub loves to grill out and I never have any objection!  We have grilled out in the snow...
We grilled out Sunday-barbecue chicken and corn.

3. What is one thing on your "never again" list?
Stumped on this one-passed and then came back to answer.  Speaking of age in #4 how about Never again be pregnant!!

4. What's something that annoys you about people your own age? Something you love about your generation?

Annoys me--I know I am not a spring chick anymore (haha) but I don't feel I am over the hill.  It annoys me when I hear someone say I am too old to do something.  What I love about my generation is our character/integrity.  I believe my generation posses these traits which is lacking in our younger generation today.

Daughter had a great check-up at UVA cardiologist appointment yesterday!!  Yeah--Praise God!
I was approved to retire in December last night at the school board meeting so..as another chapter closes one new chapter will begin to open.

Hope all mothers had a fun-filled, Happy Mother's Day!



I haven't been able to blog in a couple of weeks.  Honestly, I don't know where to start.  Too much happenings right now.


The end of the school year is slowly approaching.  I have been trying to get my paperwork in order, which I am usually pretty good at--but this year I just can't seem to get it altogether.  When I feel like I have accomplished one thing to check off my list something else pops up. I spent a couple of nights working till around 7 last week at school.  I don't know but it has been kinda crazy right now.

The weather has been summer time gorgeous and quite warm for this time of the year.Yesterday hub and I headed to Roanoke to help daughter pack up.  We were able to load most of the things in the van and on a truck--in totes.  Hub is going to head up this week in a U-haul to finish the heavy furniture stuff.  I feel like I have spent the last 8 years moving, packing, moving, and packing, --a cycle that is just now ending.

Today was spent going to church, grilling out and just hanging out.  I did notice some visitors....



I tried to capture the momma bird but had no luck.  I definitely felt the momma bird was close by watching my every move.  It amazes me how a momma bird cares for their young.  Just like us-the momma bird was protective of her young.

It has definitely been awhile since I walked around our yard!!

Our Bible Study Group on Wednesday is doing a Faithfully Fit study.  We do a devotion study and then exercise.  Two amazing young women has taken this on, and I as so glad they did.  I really enjoy the devotional study and exercising.

Daughter goes tomorrow to University of Virginia for her cardiologist appointment.  It has been 26 years since her last open heart surgery.  We go every year for her check-up and this momma still gets nervous.  I can tell daughter does too.  Daughter always asks me--"Mom do you think I will be alright?" Nerves kick in.. I reply-of course and murmur a quick prayer under my breath.  This will never change...I will always worry and get anxious when we go.

Wedding planning is coming along.  Now that daughter is home, I feel the planning will be somewhat easier-ahem!

Must try to sleep-rising at 4:30 to hit the road in the morning.  I know sleep won't come...
