Wednesday Medley

NATIONAL RIDE THE WIND DAY

1.  Tell us about the first airplane ride you took and do you like to fly?
Image result for airplane
The first airplane ride was to Boston...not for pleasure but for my daughter's open heart surgery.
I have flown a few times after Boston and I did enjoy flying.  As a matter of fact, I just got back from a trip Monday...Plane ride over 11 hours.
2.  Have you ever gone hang gliding and was it on the beach with boat power, or from a mountain with only the wind and your body?

Have never been hang gliding and I don't want too!!
3.  Have you ever gone kite flying and with whom?

When younger I sure I have gone kite flying.  I have flown many kites with my daughters.

4.  Experimental aircraft is quite popular as a hobby where Terri lives.  Have you or anyone you know ever constructed a flying machine and did you ride in it?
I knew a man from my church that constructed his airplane...well helped with the construction. He offered to take my late husband  and I for a ride in his aircraft.  We took him up on the offer.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  My late husband didn't care for the ride at all...couldn't wait to get back on the ground.

5.  Another big hobby around Lakeland is Radio Controlled Airplanes.  Have you ever seen them flying or tried your hand at it?
I have seen the Radio Controlled Airplanes flying around some but I have never tried it.

6.  Please tell us something about your week.
Just returned from a fabulous trip with college friends.

We all enjoyed the week.

Bye for now....

Crooked toes BUT Perfect

This little fellow had his check-up two weeks ago.  His pediatrician was concerned about one of his toes overlapping.  His mom, being a DPT, had been working with his toe nightly.  The pediatrician was still concerned so she made arrangements for him to go to Wake Forest to see a specialist. The appointment was Thursday.  Of course, I went...just to offer support and be an extra hand.  I kept little man occupied while his parents checked him in...and the other necessary paperwork.  I waited in the waiting room while they went in to see the doctor...we all know how small those rooms are.
The orthopedic doctor at Wake Forest was not concerned.  He believes the toe will straighten out and for daughter to continue doing what she had been doing. He said he was PERFECT! (I knew that already, ahem...All grandparents know that) Shew!!  A praise to God.
He was a little trooper...so proud of him!

Daughter suggested we find a place to take Blake before returning home.  He had ridden in a car for 2 1/2 hours and then been confined to a hospital so she didn't want to put him in a car for another 2 1/2 hours before he could run off some energy. Daughter and her husband began searching places close by.  Luckily, there was a museum close by and it looked like fun.

The museum was a blast for Blake.  There was so much to do.
He enjoyed fishing.
Loves puzzles

These animals stole his heart.
Music??  He enjoys music...Dad not too much of a fan.
Playing with the farm animals.
Riding a scooter.
Playing school.

This place was amazing.  Blake was having so much fun.  He didn't want to leave, but the rest of us were getting hungry.  Honestly, Blake would have stayed all day forgetting the food!
After some coaxing, he was persuaded to leave.
We grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed home.
No longer than five minutes after getting in the car, Blake fell asleep (along with his Mama) and slept the rest of the way home.

So proud of this little man...he was definitely a trooper through all of this.  So glad his report was good.

Milestones

It has been a while....

The heat has still been a topic in my corner of the world....but now it has begun to rain so some relief in the heat.
AND.....I did trap THREE groundhogs....I used early June apples for bait...

Since last time, I have made it through some tough mile stones....
1.  I made it through my first wedding anniversary without my dear husband.
2.  I made it through Father's Day...I did take four of hub's favorite shirts and have someone make a pillow and teddy bear for both daughters.  I knew the first Father's Day without their dad would be hard and I wanted to give them something they could hug on Father's Day.

3. I made it through my birthday...which is very close to the Fourth of July.  In a little town close by there is always a celebration on July 3 (my birthday!) and hub and I would always go...listen to music, socialize, and then watch the huge fireworks.  I really didn't feel like celebrating my birthday much less go to the celebration.  Daughter #2 persuaded me to go with them...how could I turn down this cutie...

The first fireworks scared him too death...but after that first initial shock he enjoyed himself.  Daughter felt terrible that he was scared but I convinced her there was no way to prepare him.
4.  I got a phone call later that evening, (on my birthday) that hub's headstone was up...so on the Fourth of July I went to the cemetery.  Seeing the headstone instead of the grave marker...BAM!!  this was REAL!  Tears flowed like an ocean....

5. I made it through hub's birthday, which is only 6 days after mine.
6. I didn't scream and loose it when #2 daughter sent me this...
Double 'OUCH'!  He had fallen face down...thankfully the knot had really gone down when I saw him in person the next day.
7.  This little guy has been able to spend a couple of nights with me..Yes, I did the asking...

8. I did finish the landscaping hub had started last year....4 tons of rock!!

My word for 2019 is 'Courage' and I feel some of these small milestones have taken courage.  I did make it through them...many with a lot of tears flowing down my face..."There may be pain in the night, but joy comes in the morning."

Until next time...

Wednesday Medley

.  If you have ever followed the Garfield comic strip, you know Garfield loves lasagne.  What is your favorite Italian food?  Do you over-indulge when it comes to pasta?
I love Eggplant...is this considered Italian?  When I go to Olive Garden, I order Eggplant so maybe it is Italian.
I am not a fan of pizza, lasagna, or spaghetti...Are ya'll shaking your heads!

2.  Tell us about your very first pet.  If you have never had a pet, can you tell us about an animal that touched your life in some way?
My very first pet was a dog..Pekingese.

3.  Garfield sleeps his day away, only waking to eat or sweet talk his girlfriend Arleen.  How many hours sleep do you normally get each night?  How much sleep do you really need?
Oh gosh...I normally get 4 to 5 hours a sleep a night.  I know this is bad and I know it messes with my concentration...but there are some nights I just can't sleep. I k.now I need more sleep. I think a person should get at least 8 hours of sleep.
4.  Garfield lets the mice in the house have their way.  When was the last time you had to chase out a little varment?
I probably chased out a critter a few years ago.
5.  Garfield also loves his teddy bear Pooky. Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were young (or now!)?  If you didn't or don't, what about someone you know?
I didn't have a favorite stuffed animal growing up...if I did I don't remember.  However, my grandson has to bring his stuffed dog to my house and his mom says he sleeps with a stuffed rabbit.
6.  Please tell us something about your week, so far!
Speaking of critters....I have caught 3 groundhogs!  In my building where I store my lawn mower, I saw 4 groundhogs.  One evening a groundhog was on my back porch after being under my vehicle.  I called Animal Control...no help with this because a groundhog isn't considered wild life but they did give me another number to call.  I called this number and spoke to a man about my groundhog problem.  The suggestion the man gave me was to shoot them...now I live in town and firearms are not allowed.  My brother-in-law came with a trap and without 5 hours we had caught 3.  The 4th groundhog must be older and wise; it will walk around the cage, sniff the early apples but won't go in the cage.  Hopefully, I can catch this one soon!
Asking for special prayers Thursday....Thursday will be my wedding anniversary...first one without my dear hub who passed away in November of 2018.  We would have been married 38 years if he would have lived.

What a Turn Around....

In weather that is.....Image result for weather

For the past couple of weeks, the temps have been in the high 80s and 90s.  I kept telling myself it wasn't even summer yet and wondering how hot August would be.  Well, we have dropped to the 70s and the rain has started.  It has rained for the past 3 days....not complaining cause I feel sorry for all that have been in the torrential downpours and have lost everything due to the rain. But going from 90s to 70s was a shock to me.

Little man was at the beach all last week and boy did I miss him.  According to his mom, he loved the ocean and had a great time.  She face timed a few times and I could tell he was enjoying himself.  Since he returned, he doesn't want me out of his sight (not that I mind of course). A few people who have seen us around said little man missed me just as much as I missed him.

Last year hub began some landscaping.  He always had a project going.  He became weak and didn't finish the landscaping.  I went to Lowe's last week and the brick he used they didn't have; it was discontinued.  The salesman was so nice. He called other stores in my area to see if by chance they would have had any. No such luck.  I purchased one brick to see how big of a difference the looks would be...I only need 31 bricks to finish the project.  Not that much of a difference so I returned to Lowe's purchased the other 30 bricks.  Instead of placing the mismatch brick next to each other, I kinda made a pattern...if I must say it looked nice. Next was finishing the red rock...  I went to our local store and purchased 4 tons of red rock....I know a lot right?  Monday I finished almost 2 tons!!  Shew!!!  Yep, I felt it the next day. A fellow stopped by and said I was working in the hot afternoon and I needed to do this kind of work in the early morning. Ha! He is telling me!!  I can't do this in the morning because I go to the pharmacy and try to do some paper work...I am there before 7, then I return home to babysit little man at 8 and it is hard to do landscaping with a 16 month old so I have to do this work when little man goes home.   It might take me all summer to finish but I will finish this project.

I have 5 groundhogs in the building where I store the lawn mower.  I called animal control about the problem who said they couldn't help me but gave me another number to call.  I called that number and told the man on the phone about the groundhogs...A Virginia Game Commissioner, I think.  He told me to shoot them...Ha! I can't see myself doing this.  If anyone knows how to get rid of them please let me know.
