Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. I included this quote (attributed to William H. Danforth) in my blog post yesterday... "The best cure for a sluggish mind is to disturb it's routine." When was the last time you 'disturbed your routine' and how'd you do it?

A believer in keeping the mind active.  Crossword puzzles, brain teasers, and book clubs are just a few ways to keep the mind active.

2. What's your favorite fried food indulgence?
My favorite is sweet potato fries-absolutely love these.

Second favorite is Apple Fritters-

3. Did you have an allowance as a kid? What did you do with it? Do you give your own kids an allowance?
No allowance as a child from my parents but I do remember a chore list.  My two daughters had an allowance which I believe helped them to manage their expenses at college along with a chore list.

4.  What's something you wish you knew more about?

Technology-when I have mastered one piece of technology something better/faster comes along and then it is back to the beginning for me.

5. Is there anything you feel too old to do anymore? If so, what?

Even though my mind says I am not to old, my body says "Yes" you are too old to keep up with the younger generation!

6. What's a song you think has a great first line?
Chirs Tomlin's " I Will Rise"

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

7. Who are you writing to/for when you create a blog post? In other words...as you write, who is the audience in your head?

No particular audience-sometimes just writing for myself and my daughters.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Upset--#2 daughter with a GPA of 3.911 and playing a college sport did not get into physical therapy school :(  When your children are upset and there are not comforting words or even an explanation to this, I am extremely sad.  She did receive the e-mail saying she received 2 out of 3 excellents Go figure!

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's denial into the school she wanted. It's so so so tough out there! What a different world then "back in our day." The right school will WANT her and later on you will look back and think it worked out for the best. It's just hard to feel that way when going through the disappointmenet. Good luck to her!

  2. Oh, so sorry for your daughter? What will she do now?

Apple Fritters make me think of The Parson's Table...I worked there when I was in grad school and they made really good apple fritters.

  3. Sweet Potato fries are my favorite! Yum! And I totally agree about the technology thing - even computer programs change so often just when you learn how to do everything they change it! Sorry about your daughter and PT school :(

  6. Apple fritters....I'm drooling 'bout now. And sweet potato fries doused with buttery cinnamon/sugar mix. Again, drooling. I know just how you feel about your daughter's "news"....my son who applied to get his PhD at Rice was turned down. Now, he has to jump back up from his 'fall' and conquer somewhere else. It's all part of life. And, keeping up with technology....I hear ya!!!

  7. I've never tried an apple fritter, perhaps I should!

I'm sorry about your daughter's news, but it sounds like she will have a bright future somewhere, with a GPA like hers. Best wishes to her!
